  • Getting Rid of Scotland’s Nuclear Weapons

Really enjoyed the main interview in this episode with three Scottish CND activists. It marks the first anniversary of the UN Nuclear Weapons Prohibition Treaty. And wow, what an example of two campaigns reinforcing each other: an independent Scotland would certainly become signature to TPNW and the TPNW would certainly provide support to Scotland’s negotiations to get rid of Trident. And who knows what that would mean for the UK’s nuclear arsenal.

  • I realise these reviews are primarily for the podcast as a whole and I will admit some parts of it I don't bother with. (not a fan of poetry for instance). But I utterly utterly love Stuart McHardy's Radical look at Scottish History. I would live this to be a more detailed and stand alone podcast. Highly recommended and a must listen for anyone with an interest in Scotlands past.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Election Autopsy: Part 1
Q: What was your impression of the election strategy and its effectiveness?
The panelists felt the SNP's strategy of promising a referendum and trying to frame the election around constitutional questions was limiting; they highlighted the need for more tangible, issue-based messaging and a broader coalition with greens and other pro-independence forces to mobilize voters.
Auld Alliance, New Friends
Q: Did you go to France and then suddenly learn all this? Did you know it before?
I learned much of this through living in France, researching history, and hearing personal stories from locals about Scots who aided France and the ongoing cultural exchange, which has expanded my understanding beyond classroom history.
Auld Alliance, New Friends
Q: So you think that the bond that unites France and Scotland is historical?
Yes, the bond is historical and enduring, rooted in centuries of shared military, political, and cultural exchanges, and it continues to be celebrated through festivals and people-to-people connections.
Scots - the Kindest People I've Ever Met with Malini Chakrabarty
Q: What is the resource you helped create for schools, and how did you get involved?
I contributed artwork and co-created the resource with Young Anti-Racist Voices of Scotland and the BRL program, reading the stories and helping design covers; it aims to foster dialogue about anti-racism in classrooms.
Countdown to Holyrood: Heather Anderson
Q: What are your thoughts on energy policy and Scotland's role in renewables?
Heather argues that Scotland's energy potential is being constrained by Westminster and emphasizes the need for national control over pricing, grid management, and transition plans to avoid fuel poverty while expanding renewables.
