T. S. Eliot may have been painfully prophetic when he described our nation as being hollow folk with heads full of straw. None of the major religions represented in our nation have successfully created an influential conversation about character, hon... more
Americans are dying from gunshot wounds in America at a rate of about 47,000 per year. That number looks more like the casualty count on a battle field! In fact, it is about the same as the number of deaths in the Gaza Strip during the two years of t... more
Acknowledging that evidence and critical thinking are crucial to a credible faith, the other side of that coin is that there is a great deal that not only is not known but, in fact, cannot be known. The most amazingly smart and insightful astro physi... more
How do we know what we know? Philosophy tells us that knowledge can be inherent, deductive reasoning, or it can be based on experience. What it cannot be is just imagination or personal prejudice. Science, which looks for knowable facts, depends upon... more

Ray thinks Middle East history started on October 7 2023. Absolutely the most disgusting analysis of the situation I’ve ever heard! Offering up Zionist propaganda at every turn, ignoring the war crimes Israel is committing, while spouting unproven rape allegations. No historical accounting of what Isreal has done to the indigenous people since 1948. No admission of settler atrocities in West Bank. Justifying siege on Gaza that has been going on since 2006, and the current genocide. I could go on... more
I love Dr. Ray’s sermons because he is mature and frames religion in a way that I can stomach. I’m quite allergic to using the barbaric torture and death of Jesus getting used as the doorman/gate keeper of a magical posthumous existence. I also love the perspectives of Bishop John Shelby Spong. From a Salvationist perspective I’m an atheist that says ‘No thank You’ to using the suffering of another to be accepted by a God. But Salvationism defines God for Salvationists, not the rest of humanity.... more
It is invaluable to have this progressive religious resource in the heartland where such messages are so isolated and difficult to access.
While Reverend Ray preaches a good sermon, many of which have strong social justice messages, should you plan on posing questions or having a different perspective to Roger himself - Watch Out! For off the pulpit Rev Ray is very reactive and easily offended, quick to judge and often more inclined towards doubling down on the righteousness of his stances than being open to having a civil discussion.
Excellent talks, which occasionally hold up a mirror to the incongruencies of what people of faith, say they believe and what they do. Always illuminating on yoking together our history as it effects the present and how to grow, build, and emancipate our beliefs as we become more aware and compassionate and how to put our faith into meaningful action.
