  • What Texas needs

Y’all keep on keepin on. What y’all do, isn’t about a “tit for tat” argument, it’s that y’all call things out for what some folks are doing to the detriment of our Texas communities (which have national repercussions).

Glad to listen to the recent episode, which Chris speaks with folks from West Texas (where my husband and I lived in Lubbock, for a long time). There are good people there, that are often mislead and significantly underrepresented.

Keep up the great reporting. Hopefully see y’... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Happy Hour 273: CD 2 Democratic Nominee Shaun Finnie
Q: So real quick, give us your personal bio and an introduction and include in that a little something on why you decided to run for this seat.
I grew up in Canada with a modest background, studied law, then moved into investment banking focusing on oil and gas, and I pursued an MBA to broaden my business perspective; after many years in the field, I felt compelled to run to offer a moderate, pro-business alternative in a district that needs practical leadership.
Special LIVE Pod: The Nature And Clean Energy Summit with Environment Texas, Part 2
Q: How would you, or what advice would you give to someone who's working in the private sector, but wants to help bring more conscious, sustainable, and critical thinking strategies to legislative sessions and proposed bills, or try push certain solutions forward to be adopted?
Business leaders are well positioned to advocate, especially if they can present clear, concise information, build trust with staff, and organize a small, diverse group to request meetings. Focus on the business case and local impacts, prepare a one-page briefing rather than a lengthy packet, and follow up with staff to answer questions and maintain ongoing engagement.
Happy Hour 272: FIFA Gives Dallas, Texas, and America An Opportunity To Shine For Human Rights
Q: How do you respond to rising anti-Muslim rhetoric and its potential impact on the World Cup in Dallas?
The guests condemn the rhetoric as undignified and harmful, urging leaders to focus on inclusion and security without demonizing Muslim communities, and stress that the city should model hospitality and dignity in line with universal human rights standards.
Happy Hour 272: FIFA Gives Dallas, Texas, and America An Opportunity To Shine For Human Rights
Q: Why should Dallas City Council explicitly bar local police from assisting ICE with civil warrants before the kickoff?
They argue it would demonstrate a commitment to civil liberties, reduce potential human rights abuses, and reassure international visitors that Dallas prioritizes human rights over aggressive enforcement actions during a globally scrutinized event.
Happy Hour 272: FIFA Gives Dallas, Texas, and America An Opportunity To Shine For Human Rights
Q: Tell us a little more about that local training for police and judges to ensure that we don't repeat poisoned history.
The panel emphasizes comprehensive, multi-layered human rights education across all government levels, including police training with an emphasis on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to prevent the recurrence of past abuses and to build a culture that respects dignity.
