I’ve listened regularly for years now and am a Slate Plus subscriber, but David Plotz’s talking over Emily and John has become insufferable. I know they say they’ve analyzed recordings over the years and Emily is apparently the worst culprit, but David sets up a topic with a question to one of the others formed as a baiting-like take and then does not allow them uninterrupted time to respond. I know these people are genuinely friends, but it sometimes takes on a Dana Carvey MacLaughlin Group vib... more
A current discussion of Judy Blume that doesn’t include discussion or even mention of the Netflix series Forever? AND expresses surprise the dull and barely watchable Margaret didn’t receive an Oscar nod? This conversation was interesting until it was a train wreck. I’m not sure how adapt this group is at analyzing culture or any portion of the Zeitgeist. Very odd and ultimately meaningless. I can see why Blume distanced herself from this guy!
I'm so over David Plotz being the performative contrarian because at this point it is actually harmful. The TACO Tuesday episode was the last straw for me with his wildly out-of-touch argument that the bible should be required curriculum in public schools. Neither Emily nor John can save this show from this insufferable man. The hosts are allowed to express their opinions on a topic just like listeners are allowed to withdraw their Slate+ membership and listens altogether. Slate what are you doi... more
There is no reason for the bible to be taught in schools, any more than any other book men use to justify their actions. David seems to be reaching to justify his.
The idea Dave is pro- teaching ONE RELIGION to students in school when separation of church and state exists is appalling and I actually can’t listen to someone who ‘has no problem’ with forcing religious teachings in public schools.
