  • Spamming

I do appreciate this show, particularly the DC roundtable. But it drives me nuts that I keep getting sent the same outtakes from the Radio Hour as repeats in the feed. Stop spamming us already, NYer!

  • Manufacturing Consent

It’s worth listening to this podcast to see how consent is manufactured among the professional-managerial class for elite impunity. The hosts and guests are masters at presenting arguments that then get regurgitated at bourgeois dinner parties which are competitions to “sound smart”. As an example, hear the Epstein episode, where the presenters explicitly aim to “lay the matter definitively to rest”. That then, rather than the pursuit of justice becomes the approved objective for the audience a... more

  • Washington Roundtable on the Iran War

I appreciated the discussion about the revolving explanations for the attack on Iran, but I think these excellent journalists could have gone deeper. Who stands to gain financially from the conflict and how will it lead to the consolidation of power? I think these answers will point us to the real rationale behind the attacks because power and money are the only two motivations of the Trump administration.

  • Essential listening

This podcast is a perfect companion to the exceptional publication that arrives weekly in my mailbox. I look forward to these three voices as I thumb through my podcasts. Their camaraderie is a big plus. This past week’s episode about SCOTUS with Steve Vladek (2/27/26) was an essential listen. Thankfully, a transcript exists for those of us who might need to go back over any salient points. This week was filled with them. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A Former Federal Prosecutor on Why He Quit Donald Trump’s Department of Justice
Q: Why did you feel it was necessary to resign rather than try to influence things from within?
Because remaining would have amounted to silent assent to actions I viewed as contrary to the oath I took and to the principles of the department and country, and I could not continue in that role without compromising my integrity.
A Former Federal Prosecutor on Why He Quit Donald Trump’s Department of Justice
Q: What was it like walking out of the building that evening after the indictment was announced?
It felt like losing a part of myself, emotional but resolute, and it underscored the gravity of leaving behind a place I cared deeply about to stand up for what I believed was right.
Pam Bondi Fails to Make Her Case
Q: Do Bondi and Trump have any successes on the Revenge Tour front or has it all just been kind of a disaster?
There have been selective outcomes framed as victories by Trump supporters, but the broader pattern shows ongoing damage to institutional norms and to the department's ability to function independently from political directives.
Pam Bondi Fails to Make Her Case
Q: So Ruth, earlier you were talking about Trump's revenge tour, which was obviously a very big part of his campaign, just sort of going around saying that he was going to prosecute all of his enemies.
The revenge tour has been 'successful' in the sense that it hollowed out the DOJ and created an environment where the department is less able to pursue its traditional, nonpartisan duties, as evidenced by staffing changes and intimidation tactics that dampened professional prosecutorial work.
Social Media Goes to Court
Q: And a trial has just started in the state of California against social media companies. Talk me through what's going on in California.
They describe a multi-district litigation structure where thousands of cases are heard together, with bellwether cases selected to set a precedent and potentially guide the overall litigation direction.
