  • Excellent, but…

…I’d appreciate being able to hear Evan and Jane finish their thoughts and comments without interruption. Otherwise, one of my favorite pods.

  • These people are smart but oh so smug

Please stop slapping each other on the back, plugging each others books and chuckling smugly. Just report the news and give your opinions, which are smart and appreciated, but are unfortunately diminished by the condescending antics. Fed up with libs acting the same as reactionary conservatives, just with opposite opinions.

  • I’m flabbergasted

With a straight face, you complain about Trump falling asleep.

Where were you during the Biden administration?

    You are hacks.

  • Donald Trump’s Imperial Birthday

I was rather shocked by the ageist remarks made throughout the episode (‘2nd childhood’!). You are at least 30 years behind the current and much more complex view of aging, personality, and decline. This reminds me of the 1970’s when women insisted on a different way of narrating girls’ and women’s experience, pointing out the subtleties and blatant sexism that was right in from t of our eyes. The same applies here: As Dr. Alex Comfort said in the ’70’s - you may not become a man or women, black... more

  • Overall, quite predictable

It’s fine, but I feel like I’ve listened to it before I’ve even listened to it. I am pretty well able to predict what the analysts will say. Fairly standard liberal establishment stuff here. Again, fine, but don’t expect to be surprised, challenged, or even much entertained.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Woman Who Took On the N.R.A. After Two Gun Suicides
Q: What does the NRA's planned giving program reveal about the organization's priorities and accountability?
The planned giving program highlights how the NRA framed gun rights as a cause deserving of long-term financial commitment, sometimes at great personal cost to individuals, and how this intersects with legal and ethical accountability in the wake of a member's suicide.
The Woman Who Took On the N.R.A. After Two Gun Suicides
Q: How did Stormy Kay's relationships influence her view of guns and the NRA?
Stormy's background with firearms, her partners' deaths, and her eventual observations about the NRA's evolution show how personal ties to gun culture can mask broader public health concerns and push people toward supporting or ignoring systemic issues.
The Woman Who Took On the N.R.A. After Two Gun Suicides
Q: Nearly two-thirds of gun deaths are suicides, and why hasn't this fact broken through in the debate?
The host asks why suicide is perceived as personal and less of a societal issue, while the guest explains that gun culture, masculinity, and the NRA's messaging have kept the focus on other aspects of gun violence, obscuring the link to suicide.
Andrew Weissmann Thinks Donald Trump Can Be Held to Account
Q: Are there specific reforms that could realistically gain traction?
Yes, including higher grand jury standards, potential disqualification mechanisms for lying in campaigns, and careful limits on presidential immunity that preserve accountability for non-official conduct, with a emphasis on institutional resilience and norms.
Andrew Weissmann Thinks Donald Trump Can Be Held to Account
Q: What makes this moment different for accountability against a president or former president?
Weissmann explains that while immunity and political calculations complicate prosecutions, there are still avenues—especially by strengthening congressional powers and reforming grand jury standards—that can deter and potentially lead to accountability, though it would require bipartisan support and significant structural change.
