  • Roundtable is A+

Roundtable is excellent, so smart. I will say though that sometimes Jane Mayer interrupts Susan Glasser and it makes me cringe. I see you Susan.

However, story on the street is that vance himself planted that story, not a leak that “he was against the war” which is also not true as it is being said that vance really said they would need to go into iran hard snd fast. fact-check both sides of this story people.

  • Ignorant @ Latino Catholics

Typically great and informed commentary on national politics. Episode about Vance and Catholicism totally missed that 36% of Catholic adults are Latino, and 52% of Catholics under age 30 are Latino. Latino Catholics are much more likely to vote Democratic than are white Catholics. White Catholics skew older. Please update the knowledge of the commentators. It’s meaningful.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Dan Osborn, the Independent Senate Candidate Who Could Tip Nebraska
Q: How will you fund a campaign without corporate PAC money?
He relies on small donations from everyday people, with an average contribution around $48, and emphasizes broad participation from donors across all states.
Trump’s Self-Dealing and the Question of Kleptocracy
Q: So what is the number that you came up with?
David Kirkpatrick explains the estimate of roughly $3.4 billion in self-enrichment tied to the presidency, with caveats about what counts as liquid cash versus illiquid assets.
Rachel Goldberg-Polin on Losing a Son in Gaza
Q: Rachel, welcome here. And I guess I should start by asking how you and your family are.
She explains the ongoing, visceral pain and the struggle to answer such a question with honesty, acknowledging the enduring trauma while also describing continued daily life and the commitment to advocacy.
The Whiplash of the U.S.-Iran Peace Talks
Q: Why does the interviewee think Iran will push to leverage the Strait of Hormuz, and what does that imply for negotiating a longer-term settlement?
Iran's control over Hormuz gives it significant leverage that can affect global energy markets and shipping; this leverage is likely to influence any settlement by ensuring that economic and logistical costs of sanctions and blockades are part of the bargaining, even if a deal restricts nuclear activities.
The Whiplash of the U.S.-Iran Peace Talks
Q: Can you explain what the memorandum of understanding actually is, and where it fits in the diplomatic process between the U.S. and Iran?
The MOU is intended as a starting framework that outlines principles and a roadmap to facilitate negotiations, while leaving substantial issues (like Iran's missile program and regional proxies) to be addressed in a later, more comprehensive agreement.
