  • Completely lost faith in this podcast

After years of subscribing to the NYT and listening to The Opinions podcast, I am now removing this podcast completely from my feed. I have always enjoyed it, so I was surprised and horrified to listen to "The Rich Don't Play by the Rules. So Why Should I?". It was bad in SO many ways:

    1. It presented weak and flimsy arguments that made me lose complete faith in the reasoning powers of the show's hosts.

    2. It gave ammunition to the right, at a particularly critical time in our nation's politics,... more

  • Piker /Tolentino Podcast: Shameful

Ridiculous and morally repugnant excuse for shoplifting. No doubt there’s a market for this sort of self-help advice. But for an NYT podcast audience — really? Doesn’t the Times have a higher bar for its information products?

  • Trump’s Deal-0Making Abilities, Revealed

I can’t tell you how much I enjoy hearing Robert Siegel’s voice once again on the “airwaves”. I loved him on NPR and now he’s back. Thoughtful, witty, always asking the probing questions with humility and sincerity. He’s a treasure. Thank you, NYT Opinions.

I don’t care that you platform people like Piker, but not to question the murder of a person who simply was successful makes the NY times totally disgusting. 0 stars

Thomas Friedman on the Clash at the Core of the Iran Deal
Q: How does Lebanon fit into the broader Iran deal dynamic?
He explains Iran's linking of Hormuz with its proxy forces like Hezbollah, highlighting the dangerous implications for regional stability and the difficulty of disentangling independent actors from state-level diplomacy.
Thomas Friedman on the Clash at the Core of the Iran Deal
Q: What is the significance of Vance leading the negotiations and not the Secretary of State?
He discusses how leadership handoffs and the choice of negotiator reflect broader dynamics, including credibility, bureaucratic resilience, and the risk of relying on personalities over structured diplomacy.
Thomas Friedman on the Clash at the Core of the Iran Deal
Q: Given all that, what kind of negotiating position is the US in and what are your hopes for the outcome of this negotiation?
Friedman replies by outlining the context of the US leverage, the stakes around oil prices and regional alliances, and suggests that outcomes depend on whether leadership can unite competing interests rather than rely on shortcuts or private promises.
The A.I. Bubble Is Coming for Your Retirement Account
Q: What about private markets versus public markets, and why involve the public at all?
Private markets are still keen to lend and invest, but going public offers liquidity and a way to translate private gains into broader public ownership, which also invites scrutiny and potential government involvement as a safety valve.
The A.I. Bubble Is Coming for Your Retirement Account
Q: Why are these companies doing IPOs right now?
The companies are pursuing IPOs to access capital, realize benefits for early investors, and broaden the investor base, while hoping to anchor valuations and give public markets a chance to price the growth of AI.
