On Wednesday, Justice Samuel Alito delivered the latest, probably lethal blow in the Supreme Court’s decades-long campaign against multi-racial democracy in America, with a 6-3 majority opinion gutting what remained of the Voting Rights Act in Loui... more

This was my “Ride or Die” podcast for so long - back when the Supreme Court was (mostly) independent. Now it’s mostly painful to listen to; literally and figuratively (Norm Eisen, Biden apologist?!?). Will not delete because some of the most interesting cases have been dissected on this show.
But slate is now obsessed with dragging Lindy West as much as possible to cling to relevance and it’s really sad. I didn’t even like her book that much but I don’t think that it’s a good look for slate to be treating her like she’s evil because they don’t think she’s okay with her polyamorous situation. They might be right but I don’t think she deserves what they are doing to her. And slate hasn’t been good since Danny Lavery left anyway.
Excellent discussion, thank you!
I listened to Amicus for one or two years before subscribing. I subscribed not to skip the ads, but to support a quality of legal analysis that I, as an attorney since 1979, recognize as spot on. Given the quality of the main show, I didn’t believe that the bonus episodes would be worth paying for. I was wrong. I admire, respect, and enjoy Mark Joseph Stern’s bonus commentary. There is no podcast that I have followed longer than Amicus.
This was the podcast I needed to hear. Such an honorable person. Gives me hope. Thank you so much!

The conversations feature deep dives into judicial doctrine, executive power, and the practical implications of high-stakes cases, often drawing on historical context and expert guests. Notable strength lies in pairing established jurists with seasoned lawyers and researchers to illuminate complex topics for listeners who want thoughtful, evidence-based perspectives on governance and justice. The show tends to attract listeners who value precise legal reasoning, civic literacy, and informed discussion about democracy, rights, and the courts.
