  • Let’s Get Down to it

At first I enjoyed the Beer Banter, but now there are real and dangerous political issues to talk about in Texas and on the Federal level. Ditch the Beer talk and “let’s get down to it”.

  • Broad Coverage, Narrow Journalism

What’s nice about this podcast is that the coverage is very broad. Politically, geographically (within Texas, of course) and demographically they provide a great overview of current political affairs in the Lone Star State. The journalism, however, is very narrow. What the guests have to say is taken at face value and post interview analysis is often just providing high-level context. It would be nice to see more value add from the journalists involved in creating this show. For example, a recen... more

  • Great show!

Thanks for doing the good work and keeping us informed on what’s going on in Texas!

As a teacher, I really appreciate the coverage you guys had on South Lake a few months (years?) ago!

Cypress Fairbanks ISD is the third largest district in Texas, after HISD and DISD. In 2021, three Christian Nationalists were elected to the board. Two years ago, three more were elected, giving them a 6-1 super majority. There’s been quite a bit of coverage of some of their decisions (removing 13 chapters of... more

  • Ok for a democrat podcast

Been listening occasionally for over a year now. You need to skip to about 5 min in unless you need a beer suggestion (they seem to prefer IPA’s). Then the two lefty reporters often discuss Texas related topics. with a progressive slant. Often have interviews with Texas related subject experts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

It's Coming." What The Screwworm Could Do To Texas
Q: What is the New World Screwworm and why is it a concern for Texas?
It is a parasitic fly whose larvae feed on living tissue, threatening livestock, wildlife, and potentially pets, with significant economic consequences if it spreads into Texas; control relies on surveillance, movement controls, and sterile flies to eradicate.
The Texas Stock Market Stampede
Q: What is the anticipated impact on jobs and economic activity in Texas?
The guest and hosts consensus is that a significant catalyst is ahead: a major influx of capital and jobs, with a regional hub forming around Dallas–Fort Worth and broader Texas, driven by three exchanges and improved listing options.
The Texas Stock Market Stampede
Q: Is NYSE Texas up and running, and how does one trade on it currently?
Yes, NYSE Texas has been open for about a year with numerous dual listings; investors can access it through dual-listed companies that are already public on NYSE or NASDAQ, and the exchange is working to educate the market about how to leverage this new Texas-specific liquidity channel.
Data Over Detention: How Dallas County Overhauled Juvenile Justice
Q: What exactly sparked the overhaul of the juvenile justice process in Dallas County?
A process evaluation revealed that the system was detaining many low- and medium-risk youths and not effectively addressing criminogenic needs, leading to poor outcomes. This prompted a shift to risk-based triage, front-loaded assessment, and diversion where appropriate.
"Taxes Suck, No Matter What": Tarrant County's Warning To Austin
Q: What happens if the state ends up freezing values statewide for five years—as Governor Abbott proposed?
That could keep values artificially low for longer, delaying proper reappraisal and potentially creating a larger inequality gap; it would also transfer the burden to other taxpayers and complicate budget planning for schools and municipalities.
