  • Good prehospital strange diversions occasionally

Enjoy the prehospital content and speakers. It’s probably one of the best out there for this.

The number of ‘….. could you speak to….’ Can start to jar but you do hear each guests views in the episodes.

I found some guests totally left field. The guest promoting alternative therapy as oppose to evidence based practice practice for cancer. Strange on what I assume is a mainly medical audience.

    Love it in the main.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

From Black Hawk to HEMS: Decision-Making Where It Matters Most with Kodey Bogart
Q: Walk us through a time when your situational awareness was tested and how you recovered.
In Iraq at night, fatigued and using night vision, I misread a distant light as a horizon reference, nearly descending into danger. After recognizing the error with my attitude indicator and altitude readings, I aborted the approach, paused to reassess, and relied on explicit, stepwise checks and crew dialogue to regain control and safety.
Aeromedical Medicine: The Flying ICU. Where Physiology Meets Aviation with Dr Ina Schmidt
Q: What are the unique challenges of long-range, international repatriations compared with typical helicopter missions?
Long-range flights bring dynamic weather, extended time, and limited resources, requiring meticulous preparation, pre-briefs, adaptable medications and airway plans, and a team that understands each other's roles for effective crisis management.
Aeromedical Medicine: The Flying ICU. Where Physiology Meets Aviation with Dr Ina Schmidt
Q: Ina, could you start by clarifying what people fundamentally misunderstand about fixed-wing critical care and retrieval medicine?
Many assume aeromedical transport is simply EMS in the sky; however, it requires recognizing altitude-related physiology, data-driven decision making, and a dedicated subspecialty with specialized training, equipment, and collaboration with aviation teams.
Neurodivergence in Pre-Hospital Care: ADHD and Autism with David Birch
Q: one aspect of paramedic education that could change for ADHD/autism
David argues for recognizing the spectrum nature of neurodiversity, treating individuals not stereotypes, and building education around awareness and practical communication adjustments to improve patient outcomes.
Neurodivergence in Pre-Hospital Care: ADHD and Autism with David Birch
Q: how paramedics can balance neurodivergent needs with operational pressures
He suggests delaying tasks to allow de-escalation, reducing sensory input (dim lights, lower sounds), and arranging calmer spaces or moving the patient to a quieter area of the ED to maintain safety and improve cooperation.
