Since the day he was old enough, Jeremy knew he was different. A mix of Indigenous and white heritage, he has experienced life through both vantage points – as well as the stereotypes. Join 19-year-old Jeremy Ratt on a journey of self discovery as he seeks to understand his roots and all of the distinct “pieces” that form who he is today.

Today we have a special bonus episode for you from our sibling show Unreserved, a fearless space for Indigenous voices. Host Rosanna Deerchild is ready to Indigenize your summer with a tastemaker’s guide to the best books, movies, podcasts and more. ... more
Jeremy sits down in a talking circle to further discuss identity, lateral kindness, healing and the importance of doing the work of finding out who you are. And just a warning, this episode contains language that some listeners may find offensive.
The search to find and understand your identity can come in many places, both physical and emotional. Jeremy learns about how language, home, play, food and service can all impact someone’s journey.
Art and healing weave throughout Jeremy’s story. But how do those themes shape who we are? We move toward that answer through music and family roots.

I would really appreciate it if you would add to the first episode, the true explanation of who the Metis are. There is so much misinformation and I feel like this podcast is feeding into the miss information. Otherwise, I think it’s a great premise very important to be talking about mixed indigenous identity.
Fantastic, thoughtful podcast. Jeremy is a natural at this. I hope and pray he makes more content.
I became a listener of this podcast because my teacher at VCC assigned us a big project, writing about Canada’s Indigenous peoples. Every time I listen to it, I learn something new. There were unpredictable coincidences in this podcast where Jeremy talked to a Métis man who claimed himself that he is queer and where Jeremy talked to his mother and said he would like to see her taking a vacation.
