I have listened to a good number of M. William Phelps’ podcasts. Never has his intonation been so drawn out. Four letter words being stretched out into six beats makes me wonder if he’s getting paid by time, or as I joked in the title, syllable.
I’ve enjoyed his work in the past, but couldn’t finish this one.
That’s a first for a Binge series for me.
(Fatal Fantasy) The host can off arrogant and though his resume is impressive, a great true crime writer does not a host make. It seemed to attack religions that we not “mainstream” even belittling them. No storytelling, no build. Forced through it becuase I am a paid subscriber, but after this one, I’m rethinking that choice
What a gratuitous, sleazy way to approach a true crime story. The sound effects on the narration of Clara’s message was the last straw.
Subject was interesting enough to suffer through the annoying host, until the host started talking about Dungeons and Dragons. I’m not sure where he got his information from, but it did not sound like he spoke with anyone who has actually played Dungeons and Dragons. I’m not sure when this came out, but he could have just watched Stranger Things and had a more informed take.
the occult is not synonymous with black magic. not all magic practiced by wicca or pagans is filled with bad intent. this podcast seems to think saying not all wiccans practice the occult is enough, but it is incorrectly putting the assumption out there that any wiccan magic is black magic. all religion is essentially magic. in this day and age, i didn't expect such old christian judgements to be put forth on a podcast.

A gripping true-crime slate that centers investigative storytelling around high-profile murders and the subcultures surrounding them. Episodes frequently blend meticulous forensic detail, motive speculation, and interviews with detectives, medical experts, and individuals connected to the cases, including figures who lived through or were implicated in dramatic crimes. The host's narrative approach leans into narrative-driven journalism, with recurring themes of justice, identity, and the ethics of storytelling in crime. A distinctive angle is the exploration of subcultures, occult symbolism, and the messy interplay between fame, ambition, and culpability, often following long-burning cases and long-form interviews that unpack complex legal... more
