Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

80 Years Later: Hiroshima, Nagasaki and the Legacy of Hibakusha
Q: How should we respond to people who are promoting the idea of building these smaller, more usable nuclear weapons?
We should encourage people to educate themselves because using smaller, more 'usable' weapons still has a devastating impact, and people should not be casual about the idea of using any nuclear weapons.
80 Years Later: Hiroshima, Nagasaki and the Legacy of Hibakusha
Q: As someone who was born after the end of the Cold War, what do you think is the best way to encourage your peers and younger generations to not be complacent about the fact that nuclear weapons are still very present?
People are not necessarily complacent, but they have become unfazed; they wouldn't be surprised if some conflicts turned into nuclear warfare, which shows a disconnect from the seriousness of the topic.
80 Years Later: Hiroshima, Nagasaki and the Legacy of Hibakusha
Q: How do you think being a third-generation Hibakusha impacts your life?
It is important for people like me to continue talking about the real stories from these events because there are almost no Hibakusha left, and this generation needs to hear these personal narratives.
Exploring Iran's Nuclear Program
Q: What might we hope to see in a return to the Iran Nuclear Deal?
A future arms control agreement would require faithful engagement in negotiations and strong verification practices in exchange for sanctions relief.
Exploring Iran's Nuclear Program
Q: Will the current conflict in the Middle East finally drive Iran toward the creation of a nuclear weapon?
Experts believe Iran is not moving towards the weaponization of its nuclear program, at least not yet.
