I don’t even know what to say other than to say than as soon as I finish the episode, I’m eagerly awaiting for the next. I wish you guys posted more.

I was listening to another podcast and someone name dropped Jake’s in relation to Iran during Obama’s time. And in my brain I was like OOH OOH I know who that is. And I felt super cool. Your episode is next in my queue and I want to listen to the current podcast at 2x lol. Keep up the good work. You ease my anxiety.

  • Deeply Insightful and Accessible

This podcast represents decades of experience, thoughtfulness, and a remarkable ability to frame various national security challenges in the context of not only what really happens and how decisions are made, but also the long-term perspectives on national security and the repercussions of decision-making. Very few podcasts come close to being as compelling as these hosts make complex matters.

  • Awesome insight into what’s going on

These guys, and the people they interview, are awesome. Instead of some reporter (or talking head) telling us what they think is going on, these guys actually lived it under previous administrations (working in top National Security posts). They know their stuff, so their analysis and insight is unmatched. And then they bring on truly amazing and qualified people to ad to their knowledge. A truly unique and informative show. I have learned so much from them.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Iran Ceasefire Explained: Winners, Losers, and What Comes Next
Q: What do you think about the assassinations of Iranian leaders and the precedent it sets for world conflict?
They argue that assassinations blur lines with targeted killings and could normalize aggressive conduct, urging a tight interpretation of Reagan-era norms and caution against expanding extraterritorial action.
Iran After Khamenei & Pentagon vs. Anthropic (with Karim Sadjadpour)
Q: Do you think the next Iranian strongman will be a cleric or a nationalist with broad-based legitimacy?
The guest argues the next leader is unlikely to be a cleric wearing a turban; nationalism that is pluralistic and inclusive may shape the future, but internal power dynamics and security forces will determine the outcome.
Iran After Khamenei & Pentagon vs. Anthropic (with Karim Sadjadpour)
Q: What is your best explanation as to why Ayatollah Khamenei, despite anticipating violence, did not strike a deal to avoid further risk?
He weighed the regime's survival calculus, recognizing that concessions could undermine internal legitimacy and embolden adversaries, so he leaned into resistance and calculated risk rather than betrayals that could fracture the regime.
