Reviews

  • Normally very good

Bill Maher saying “ I don’t know “ was the only accurate thing he said. Normally, your guests are thoughtful and intelligent. They speak with knowledge and facts to back them up. They don’t speak in generalities and opinions with nothing to substantiate what they say. Except Maher. I’m surprised you had him as a guest since he contributed nothing.

  • Balance Would Be Great

There is no balance of viewpoints. It has become part of the echo chamber that infects all media. Not surprised given his affiliation with PBS but it is disappointing.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The future of the Democratic party, with Josh Shapiro
Q: What is the slogan the American people will hear if you are on the national stage?
He answers that he is running for reelection in Pennsylvania and emphasizes a record of economic growth, crime reduction, improved education, and a commitment to getting things done for the people of Pennsylvania, aiming to project a practical, results-oriented brand.
The future of the Democratic party, with Josh Shapiro
Q: Josh, if you don't mind, I want to turn to the home front for a little bit. What are the lessons the Democratic party should learn from the last election?
Shapiro argues the party should focus on delivering tangible results for families—economic growth, lower costs, safer communities, and high-quality education—while avoiding polarization and keeping a bipartisan, results-driven approach rooted in state-level success.
The Supreme Court's biggest tests ahead, with Emily Bazelon
Q: What are the indications that we should be looking for regarding constitutional crises and the Court's ability to stand as a check on executive power?
The best arguments suggest the Court should intervene when presidential actions are clearly overstepping constitutional boundaries, but the Court's willingness to check Congress or the executive depends on the context and the specifics of each case, with the shadow docket complicating the reasoning and transparency.
Winners and losers of the Iran war, with Kori Schake
Q: Tell me how you think about the war in Iran right now and its impact.
Kori Schake argues that the war's execution has damaged U.S. credibility and left allies uncertain, while the broader objective remains unclear; she emphasizes the need to constrain Iran's nuclear ambitions and maintain alliance cohesion to prevent a lasting strategic setback.
Cuba's Trump standoff and economic crisis with Michael Bustamante
Q: If a deal is possible, what might it look like and what would it mean for U.S. politics and Cuban governance?
A primarily economic deal could be pursued, offering tourism and investment opportunities while avoiding immediate political change, but the guest stresses that the political and human rights implications depend on what signals the Cuban government sends, such as releasing prisoners and making incremental reforms without altering the core political system.
