  • News Part Passable, Lousy Guests

Only passable part of the show would be the day’s business news at the top. Beyond that, it’s a right-wing talkfest with the guests —business-related or otherwise — parroting right-wing talking points on the markets and social issues. I usually stop listening before the more ideologically-driven second half-hour of the show.

  • News Part Passable, Lousy Guests

Only passable part of the show would be the day’s business news at the top. Beyond that, it’s not worth listening given the mainly right-leaning guests with almost no left-leaning guests to provide some balance and diversity of perspectives on business and economic matters. Not surprising, given the show originates on a right-wing hate radio station in L.A.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Nervous times on Wall Street and Main St: Stokes slide, gas and oil prices spike
Q: How might monetary policy and oil prices interact going forward, especially for real estate and mortgages in a high-rate environment?
The discussion highlights the Fed's balancing act with inflation versus employment, noting mortgage rates staying high and housing supply tight, which could slow the housing market even as inflation pressures evolve, depending on oil price trajectories and policy responses.
Nervous times on Wall Street and Main St: Stokes slide, gas and oil prices spike
Q: What is the outlook for California's economy and gas prices given the refinery constraints and energy policy?
Clifton Smith and Dr. Kleinhenz emphasize that California's oil production is constrained domestically, leading to higher prices; policy and regulatory environments significantly influence supply, and there is a need for pragmatic energy strategy to avoid escalating costs for consumers and the military's energy needs.
Nervous times on Wall Street and Main St: Stokes slide, gas and oil prices spike
Q: What is the economic impact of the oil price surge and the war in Iran on the economy and markets?
Dr. Kleinhenz explains that while oil above $100 can contribute to inflation, it does not derail the economy; the impact depends on duration, and consumption shifts occur as households adjust spending, with local effects on LA County's economy and housing market.
Wall Street and Main Street with Steve Hilton, Kevin Klowden, Derek Alpert
Q: What tax changes or fiscal reforms do you propose to alleviate the burden on Californians while reducing government waste?
Proposes eliminating new taxes, making the first $150k of income tax-free, implementing an 8% flat tax above that threshold, and aggressively cutting waste and fraud in government programs to reduce costs.
NVIDIA back in the spotlight, crypto rebound since start of Iran war
Q: How does the big tax policy change affect small businesses and what should they be watching as they file their taxes this year?
Dylan Rosnick outlines that the 20% small business deduction (section 199A) has been made permanent, providing tax certainty and encouraging reinvestment; he also highlights tools like section 179 expensing and R&D credits that can further reduce tax burdens for small businesses.
