  • Right?

No exaggeration, the host says the word “right?” about 200 times per episode and becomes much more of a distraction than anything and pulls away from the stories at hand. I wish the editors would take out half of the “rights” so people like me can continue to listen to some incredible stories.

Documentarian ERIN LEE CARR’s Mentor Buffet
Q: What is the most impactful film or the process behind it, and how did mentorship influence that work?
Mentorship shaped her access to collaborators and confidence to pursue ambitious projects, with mentors like Sheila Nevins and Judd Apatow opening doors and providing critical feedback that helped drive her career decisions.
Documentarian ERIN LEE CARR’s Mentor Buffet
Q: Tell me more about your dad as a mentor to you.
Her father was a stringent, high-expectation mentor who pushed her to be prepared, to show up early, and to write thoughtful emails; his support helped instill discipline, belief, and a habit of rigorous preparation.
How do I let go of trying to be perfect?
Q: How should one handle the pressure of money while pursuing artistic goals without feeling shame about paid work that isn't perfect?
Accept that earning money with integrity is acceptable and necessary; don't equate immediate earnings with the end goal. Use paid opportunities as stepping stones while keeping your long-term creative vision intact, and give yourself permission to grow into higher-level work over time.
How do I let go of trying to be perfect?
Q: What mindset shifts help when moving from one discipline (e.g., track) to another (e.g., trail running) or when starting a new craft like cinematography?
Treat it as being a beginner again in a supportive environment: acknowledge gaps, seek coaching or mentorship, and commit to learning gradually. Embrace that growth happens leaf by leaf, and focus on consistency, curiosity, and bridging the knowledge gap rather than forcing instant expertise.
How do I let go of trying to be perfect?
Q: How do I balance the pursuit of a dream while making a living, and not get overwhelmed by peers who seem to be ahead financially?
Recognize that most creative or athletic paths don't pay immediately. Separate your financial needs from your creative growth at the start, and give the work time to develop while you support yourself in practical ways. Track your annual financial needs to reduce stress, and avoid letting comparisons derail your progress; instead, learn from others' approaches without judging your own path against theirs.
