  • Old coaches love this podcast

After leaving coaching over two decades ago (I was a District Athletic Director) and coming back into coaching after I retired a few years ago, I really enjoy the insight and new knowledge I am getting from this podcast. The track world from the 80’s and 90’s is vastly different from today’s track and field world. You two should be proud of your podcast and what you are doing for people of all ages. Kara, I was also impressed with the Athletes lounge. Your insight and the other athletes honest o... more

  • It’s like my running buddies are elites!

So grateful to Des and Kara for their insight, their humor and their willingness (and courage!) to share so openly about their own lives. Feels like I’m running alongside them and we’re all just chatting, what a cool opportunity for a mid pack mother :) Also, buy their books!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

4.35. Jessie MF Diggins!
Q: What was it like to finally host a World Cup in the United States, and how did that affect your career and the sport's trajectory?
Diggins describes the emotional significance, the glittery celebration, and the responsibility to grow the sport, noting increased funding and visibility for US skiing after the Minneapolis event.
4.35. Jessie MF Diggins!
Q: How did the 2014 Olympic experience shape your approach to competing on the biggest stage?
She explains going in as the baby of the team, focusing on learning, journaling, and debriefing after races, which built a foundation for later success and reduced pressure.
4.15. Live from Boston 2026!
Q: Why do you think podium is a more realistic short-term goal for some athletes rather than aiming straight for a win?
Because Boston is unpredictable and strategic outcomes matter as much as pace; focusing on podium positions allows athletes to balance risk, conserve energy, and build momentum toward bigger goals like the Olympic Trials, while still leveraging opportunities to move up and make a statement.
3.34. The Anthony Ramos Episode
Q: Is there anything that you're scared of when it comes to the marathon?
Anthony shared his fear of needing to use the bathroom during the race, as well as concerns for his legs holding up throughout the race, but also expressed a sense of humor about it.
3.34. The Anthony Ramos Episode
Q: What has been different about running specifically compared to your previous athletic experiences?
Anthony noted that running has been far more meditative than expectation and has allowed him to have significant emotional experiences, such as processing feelings about his father's passing.
