  • Oversaturated

This podcast used to be fun, but it feels like it’s just become another vehicle to market products the general audience doesn’t really need unfortunately. Are Registered Dietitians permitted to promote one specific product or be partial to one brand? If you have to hype sponsor content, okay, but don’t make it so over the top and over-sell, it becomes even more annoying. The bigger question is are you really helping anyone to learn anything about nutrition other than to buy packaged sports mark... more

  • Amazing advice for improving performance, but sometimes mean-spirited

I love Meghann’s advice and her sunny, welcoming attitude on the show. I took nearly 11 minutes off my marathon PR by incorporating her nutrition recommendations into my training. But Thomas can be elitist and adds very little to the show. He spent a good chunk of the most recent episode making fun of listeners who run with hydration backpacks and speculated that a listener who uses medical cannabis called in to the show high (a dumb joke that didn’t land). Running is for everyone, and we should... more

  • Love you guys but not the voicemail

Guys, you are awesome and the nutrition advice is really solid, but please consider dropping the voicemail listener questions. Many are way too long and I am not really here to listen to some girl talk about how close she is to a sub 3 marathon.

  • ok

Helpful to a point. Leans more to those in elite training. Hosts ego and insensitive to the entire audience sets in sometimes. Not everyone is seeking Boston, fyi.

  • Solid advice for performance

Lots of great performance advice here. I might add a caveat that the focus isn’t health per se as much as performance but if you know that going in it’s great for your racing qiestions

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

133 | RNWY Hits Whole Foods, Hunger Cues, BPN Go Gel Limits and Carb Loading Shorter Races
Q: How should carb loading differ for a fast 10K versus a marathon when training 100+ miles a week?
For a fast 10K, you typically don't need to dramatically carb-load like a marathon; for very high weekly mileage, ensure daily carbohydrate intake supports training load and target fueling around workouts rather than a day-by-day carb-load protocol.
133 | RNWY Hits Whole Foods, Hunger Cues, BPN Go Gel Limits and Carb Loading Shorter Races
Q: Should I try to take salt pills too during a hot marathon if I'm already consuming electrolytes in my drinks?
Salt and electrolyte strategies should be personalized; if you're a heavy sweater, you may benefit from higher sodium intake, but from a general standpoint, consult a sweat test and adjust based on sweat rate and composition rather than assuming generic dosing.
130 | Oral Iron Strips, UCAN Alternatives, Runner’s Colitis and Grand Canyon Nutrition
Q: How to approach eight Morton gels in a marathon?
Build fueling tolerance through training, incorporate higher-carb drinks to reduce gel reliance, and consider alternating gels with chews to ease GI burden while training.
130 | Oral Iron Strips, UCAN Alternatives, Runner’s Colitis and Grand Canyon Nutrition
Q: What should Maya consider for runner's colitis and GI distress during long runs?
Prioritize daily hydration and per-hour sodium intake, reassess caffeine impact, and consider fiber content in daily diet; consult a gastroenterologist if symptoms persist.
130 | Oral Iron Strips, UCAN Alternatives, Runner’s Colitis and Grand Canyon Nutrition
Q: What should Jamie do to fuel for the Dollywood Butterfly Challenge (two events in one day and a half marathon next day)?
Plan a two-day carb load, ensure hydration between events, and use easily digestible foods and readily available fluids; consider starting with normal long-run fueling principles and adapt as needed for the 24-hour window.
