  • Used to be very good.

Used to be a go to podcast and one I would recommend. Lately. Its lost it spark. Hosts talk like they are on NPR and could put you to sleep. Don’t know why hosts were chosen when main hosts were leaving but they did not find folks who know the game and are excited to talk about it at all, let alone produce consistent content. Very sad that I just don’t want to listen anymore.

I used to be a regular listener and even contributor for the show, but ever since Ryan and Perram passed the helm, the show seems to have taken a turn. We don’t seem to get a much as far as pathfinder news and insights anymore. Also the pathfinder content has shifted its focus to social issues over rpg info in my opinion, which I didn’t think was the focus of the podcast.

I do still greatly enjoy Digital Divination and their content, just miss when we got comparable discussion of pathfinder.

  • Episode 35 took 34 minutes of a 1 hour podcast to actually talk about Starfinder. Pretty much every episode is like this. Random ramblings about personal stuff that has no bearing on the topic of Starfinder in general.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Game Design Unboxed 138: Song Survivor
Q: How long did it take to move from initial concept to market for Song Survivor?
We moved pretty fast, roughly three to five months, thanks to a solid development pipeline and focused prototyping that kept us aligned with the core idea.
Game Design Unboxed 137: A Place for All My Books
Q: What would you say was the most important change during development after showing it to the publisher?
The biggest shift was framing the energy as social battery and leaning into a personality-driven, cozy identity rather than a generic thematic approach, which helped target a specific audience.
Game Design Unboxed 135: Stable Times
Q: Do you think it's better to focus on one game or have a mix when you go to something like a Prodigy feel?
I think it's good to have a mix because if I'm playtesting a game multiple times, I want to ensure variety for my playtesters.
Game Design Unboxed 135: Stable Times
Q: How much play testing was done in the development stage once the game was signed?
There was quite a bit of play testing, mostly small tweaks, after the game was signed.
Game Design Unboxed 135: Stable Times
Q: What inspired the design of Stable Times?
Stable Times evolved from an earlier concept focused on sea stars and was rethemed into a horse game, as Kristen had a personal connection to horses.
