  • Love the pod! Would love to hear more frequently.

This pod was a big reason why I learned about and got more involved in YIMBY Action. Would be great to hear more regularly from this feed or to have a separate one that gives some analysis on recent housing developments.

  • Love this Real and Awesome Show

The YIMBY movement is so exciting. What the Bernie Sanders movement is nationally the YIMBY movement is local. Awesome to see the genesis of an entirely new political movement.

  • I love the YIMBY party!

As an SF resident, I am so glad we have the YIMBY party fighting for common sense housing policy. These are people with an in depth knowledge of California housing policy and history and the environmental consequences of anti density development. Additionally they are hilarious.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Moving Chains: How New Housing Creates Affordability
Q: What inspired this particular project and how did it get going?
The research built on prior work about moving chains and vacancies, expanding the focus to rents across the country and incorporating new data sources to assess how increased supply influences affordability regionally and in bottom-tier housing.
The Newest Tool for YIMBY Voters
Q: As you were compiling this data, were there any results that stood out to you in particular?
A key takeaway was that only a small group of legislators wield outsized power to block bills; recognizing these choke points can help advocates target activation and support for pro-housing champions in future sessions.
The Newest Tool for YIMBY Voters
Q: Can you walk us through the methodology and how the scores were actually given to people who we evaluated?
The process involved assigning points based on legislators' votes on high-priority and priority housing bills, with bonus points for sponsoring or co-sponsoring key bills, and deductions for votes against housing; outliers were carefully examined to ensure scoring reflected performance rather than simply volume of votes.
The Newest Tool for YIMBY Voters
Q: What made YIMBY Action decide that this was the right time to create Scorecards specifically for housing?
Virginia is experiencing a housing affordability crisis that has been escalating post-pandemic, and the scorecards aim to bring transparency to state-level housing policy and empower local chapters and voters to hold officials accountable for delivering more homes and streamlined processes.
Innovations That Scale: Ivory Prize Winners Tackling Housing Affordability
Q: Why is the prize open to such a broad mix of entrants—from cities to startups to nonprofits?
Broad inclusion ensures that anyone with a viable solution can participate; collaboration across government, nonprofits, and for-profits is essential to move the dial on affordability, and the prize acts as a bridge to connect these diverse players and scale promising ideas.
