I came across this podcast through a link on Martin Edward’s’ own website. It is excellent. Intelligent discussions with very high quality guests discussing aspects of the detective novels and short stories of the golden age, generally ~ 1920 to 1940. Topics range across reprints, festivals, plot devices and snippets of the private lives of authors of this period, many of whom were women - in fact it is perhaps one of the niche areas of literature where women could be said to have led the field.... more
My favorite! So bummed it has to end. Thanks for the episodes!
In GAD we trust is that rare thing - an intellectually curious, very listenable but fun podcast among friends of golden age detective fiction.
The breadth of the subjects ranges from the most well know authors such as Agatha Christie to more niche and out of print works.
The style ranges from a discussion among friends on a particular novel to an exploration of tropes, themes and ideas within them.
How a podcast should be done.
If you’re a fan of Golden Age detective mysteries, then you won’t find a better podcast than this one. Each episode offers a fascinating insight into the mystery genre with discussions by hugely knowledgeable experts and aficionados in the field. No matter how widely read you are, you will find here perspectives you haven’t considered and authors you haven’t heard of. Fun, clever and full of surprises.
