The conversations around men's issues are crucial and much-needed in today's society. It's refreshing to hear men openly discussing topics that are often stigmatised or ignored. I appreciate the diverse range of guests and perspectives, and I always come away with new insights and a deeper understanding of these important issues. I highly recommend this podcast and hope to see more episodes in the future.

  • One of my favourite podcasts

Insightful conversations that make you think mixed with great banter. Hugh’s got a real talent for it as a presenter. He listens, lets his guests complete their thoughts and then follows up with questions that draw more out of them. Keep up the great work.

Great podcast. Hugh is a brilliant interviewer and has a good variety of guests. Interesting and humourless content. Well worth a follow/listen.

  • Not for me.

Had to turn it off after about 20 minutes. Host as flexible as a brick. I don’t have to agree with everything you say but if you pick your points without seeing a bigger picture then as a veteran and podcast host you must have lived under a rock for the last 20 odd years. Wishing them all the best with the show and life but definitely not for me.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

"Confidence is like a callus – you have to wear the skin." Adele Dobler's H-Hour Icebreaker
Q: Is confidence something you build over time or something you're forced into, whether you like it or not?
Adele explains it's a mix of both: initial insecurity can give way to confidence as one practices hard things and experiences regular exposure to adversity, thereby building resilience.
H-Hour Icebreaker - Jacob Lockwood
Q: What is the greatest highlight of your military career and your civilian career?
He describes delivering hundreds of Christmas presents to orphans in Kenya, a personal initiative that brought him a strong sense of fulfillment and community impact.
Rohan Byfield's H-Hour Icebreaker - ex SFSG
Q: What part of your Parachute Regiment/SFSG experience shaped how you lead civilians today?
Everything—the good, the bad, the toxic leaders—taught me to take people at face value, grant autonomy, expect accountability, and adapt leadership style to individuals' needs.
Rohan Byfield's H-Hour Icebreaker - ex SFSG
Q: Are the best Paras generally in SFSG? How does serving in one Para compare to two or three?
There's a strong, healthy competition within and between battalions, but all Paras share a common ethos and high standards; no single battalion is universally better, though individual experiences vary.
Rohan Byfield's H-Hour Icebreaker - ex SFSG
Q: Paras are known for bravery in combat, but when have you been cowardly in your life?
I've sometimes held back in situations where speaking up could be confrontational, choosing to save someone's feelings rather than risk making things worse, but later reflected and realized I should have spoken up.
