  • Great show

    Love this show.

But please organize the podcasts differently.

First, most recent at the top, so we don’t need to scroll through a bunch of old podcasts to find the most recent.

Second, it would be nice if you could find a way to date the podcasts so if I listen to older podcasts I have an idea when they were created.

  • Great show

Greetings from Billings. I worked hard for the last 2 campaigns (even door knocking) and have met the senator a couple times. He’s a good man. This interview with Gloria Allred was so enlightening. I would like to see her out there more. She knows so much from the most important (survivor) point of view. I do have to listen to this on 1.5 speed but that’s just me. Originally being from Chicago, Montanans speak too slow.

  • Not co-equal branches of government

From a fellow native Montanan. Almost every week you state that congress is a co-equal branch of the US government. From my civic class I learned Article 1 - “the people” - is the primary and superior branch. Controls the budget, oversight of executive, war-making power, etc.

Granting the president power over the legislative has created this untenable situation.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A Vote is a Kind of Prayer
Q: What do you think the outcome of the primary signals for November, and how might it affect Georgia and national politics?
The discussion suggests that while primaries highlight shifts, the general election will depend on turnout, messaging, and how candidates address costs, inflation, and policy disagreements. Warnock emphasizes mobilizing voters and maintaining focus on core issues like voting rights and housing.
Data Nerd
Q: Thinking back to Jon Tester's race in 2006, how much has the political landscape changed since then, and could Tester have done anything differently in 2024?
Jim Messina explains the fundamental shift toward polarization and the importance of a broad message that resonates beyond the base, noting how focus on narrative and local issues helped wins in Virginia and New Jersey, while warning that a data-first, or 'purity,' approach risks losing moderate voters and the center ground.
Restore the Norms: A chat with Scott MacFarlane
Q: Why is platforming misinformation such a critical issue for you, and how does independent media approach it differently from legacy outlets?
He argues legacy media often platform misinformation due to perceived obligations to the President or prominent figures; independent media can prioritize accuracy and direct audience engagement, cutting through the noise with a more declarative, conversational style.
Restore the Norms: A chat with Scott MacFarlane
Q: Scott, what went into your decision to move from CBS News to independent media, and what are you seeking to achieve in this new space?
Scott explains that leaving a network role was a difficult but intentional step toward greater direct access to audiences and the freedom to pursue what viewers want, without the constraints of traditional TV formats.
Money, Money, Money
Q: What concrete steps can listeners take to push back against money in politics?
Listeners can engage with and support reform groups like End Citizens United, Common Cause, and Open Secrets; they should contact their lawmakers, participate in town halls, donate to reform efforts, and ask candidates about their positions on caps and transparency to ensure money does not unduly influence policy.
