  • Really?

Bizarre discussion today about gerrymandering. Very little nuance noted about the difference between how the two parties are handling it. Have this discussion when we aren’t in an all out war for Democracy….doing it now comes across as out of touch and ridiculous.

I may be done with this podcast. Barbara, Democrats are not just like Republicans. This redistricting midstream was started by Trump and Texas. Kim, you couldn’t just leave it alone. You cannot bring as one podcast or said you cannot bring a pillow to a gun or knife fight. What were Democrats supposed to do? Just let the Republicans gerrymander every state that they control? You ladies can’t have it both ways. This is a very serious issue. So stop trying to ingratiate yourself with ever... more

  • Loving the choice of questions!

I enjoyed this latest episode of questions and the not politically charged ones! Regular every day questions the effect every day folk! I wasn’t aware Michigan’s cap on Small Claims Court went up to $8000. Keep on with the political and current event questions and please keep sprinkling in these questions as well!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

301: CSI: Seashells Division
Q: How are small claims cases brought and adjudicated?
They are designed to be inexpensive and quick, with a judge but no jury, and often involve small sums; parties represent themselves unless the other side hires a lawyer, and judgments can lead to asset recovery if the other side doesn't show up.
303: Fire In The Hole
Q: With Brittany in the news again, who initiates the process for conservatorship and how does that work?
Conservatorship is usually initiated by a court petition, often by family members or a caregiver, and can be for a defined period depending on incapacity assessments; this process varies by state.
303: Fire In The Hole
Q: Could Jim Comey's legal counsel simply quote a Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of 86 to the judge to put an end to this ridiculous indictment?
Yes, using dictionary definitions to illuminate the plain meaning of terms can be a valid litigation strategy to clarify the intended scope of actions being debated.
303: Fire In The Hole
Q: This question comes from Yosef in New York City, New York. If this Supreme Court were present in 1965, do you think they would have found the Voting Rights Act went against the 14th Amendment? If not, did SCOTUS rule the way they did now because things have changed by 2026?
Historically, the Warren Court expanded civil rights; a Roberts Court in 1965 might have produced different outcomes. The 1966 case upheld Congress's power under the 15th Amendment, affirming civil rights protections, whereas the current Court's approach has shifted in ways that could undermine similar acts.
303: Fire In The Hole
Q: Hello, Hashtag Sisters In Law, and thank you all for all you do. This is Kate, an American in Canada, with a question for Jill Wine-Banks. There's reporting that Secretary of War Crimes Hegseth fired the Secretary of the Navy. Wouldn't it have to be that the president would fire the Secretary of the Navy? Or what am I missing?
The Secretary of the Navy is appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate but serves under the Secretary of Defense, who has the power to remove them; this creates a delegated authority chain rather than a direct presidential removal.
