It’s intentionally long-form — too many podcasts try to cram everything into 30–45 minutes, leaving no room for real conversation. John's goal is different: authentic stories, honest experiences, no fluff. Just two like-minded people talking shop, the way you would around a campfire. Listeners get to be a fly on the wall — learning through our stories, hearing both the wins and the failures, and w... more

Jason Pietruszka of JJP Construction, out of Los Angeles, joins us this week on the pod. Jason takes us back to 2008 — when his dad gave him that first nudge into the industry. From there, he’s gone on to build 250+ homes… starting in production, whe... more
Chad Coll of C.S. Spoon & Co. is doing what a lot of us in construction have done — turning a hobby into a business. And the path? It’s almost too familiar. This wasn’t some calculated move chasing market share — “let me go grab 5% or 10% of the spoo... more

I enjoy the show a lot and regularly listen. I PM for a custom builder and the show was recommended to me. My only critique is that I want more of a learning aspect from the interviews. We obviously can learn much just hearing other’s experiences, but if some specific questions were also peppered in to draw out guest’s opinions on things, that’d be great.
Maybe some “what would you say to guys that are in this situation?” type questions would be awesome. Still, it’s a great show that I’ll conti... more
Johnny always has great guests and the conversations are never sugar coated. Although his projects are much larger scale than my own, he still keeps the conversation relatable with his candor and gets the most out of his guests.
I’m looking forward to what he has coming in the future!
I related most to Johnny on his previous podcast, so was psyched when GC launched. Every episode has progressively gotten better. Johnny provided great insights while letting the guest shine and it’s a truly enjoyable listen!
Real genuine conversation about craftsmanship and the wins and losses of learning along the way. Definitely worth a listen
Huge fan of Johnny and have enjoyed the guests that he has had on his podcast so far and am excited to see who is upcoming! Love the long form as well!

Long-form conversations centered on construction, design, and running small-to-mid sized builder businesses. Episodes frequently dive into hands-on craft, project management, pricing, subcontractor dynamics, and growth strategies, all told through personal stories, challenges, and lessons learned from leaders in high-end residential work. Notable throughlines include transitioning from trades to systems and leadership, the human side of the industry (health, family, mentorship), and practical takeaways for improving margins, workflows, and culture on any construction team.
