  • What does sweet spot even mean??!?!

Just found this podcast. - been a cyclist for 20 years and a crit racer as well. I honestly have no idea what “sweet spot” means to this guy?!? And in the 6 podcasts I listened to - he explains it zero times. Also i believe he said “sweet-spot” almost 200 times in the most recent episode… and again - he never explains it. It’s a homemade term. Or perhaps just used in a small community of people? But not mainstream cycling circles.

Perhaps you might find some help here as a listener. But to ... more

  • Thoughtful, thorough and evidence based

I’m a couple of years into meaningful cycling, tried listening to numerous podcast to level up, and this is the best show I found to date. Absolute treasure trove of practical advice.

Thank you for your efforts, I’m definitely considering signing up as your program seems very affordable, and if it is anything like the show I expect it’s high-quality.

    Happy riding!

  • Essential Listening: 5 Ways to be a Better Cyclist

I’m a long time listener and just finished this episode with Fascat coach Justin Bowes. What I loved is Justin’s emphasis on the “soft skills” needed to get the most from the hard physical work we do on the bike. It’s not just about watts; it’s really about building a complete athlete with things like focus, preparedness and positive thinking. I was left with the impression that these lessons are not just for cyclists, they are universal. Thanks Fascat and Coach Justin!

Talking Points

Ask A FasCat #30
Q: How can I balance year-round strength training with increased race intensity and frequency?
Use strength maintenance instead of heavy winter lifting; keep one set of squats with low reps (three reps, one set) at about 70% of your 1RM on Sundays (rest day usually Monday). Do not add extra strength work during the season to avoid sabotaging bike workouts; if you want more load, you can add a second session on Thursday after riding, but keep it conservative.
Ask a FasCat Q&A from our Sweet Spot Saturday Group Ride
Q: How do you see the Festive 500 fitting into a strength plan?
You can customize your plan, pausing your strength work to participate in the Festive 500, but it's possible to do both if your schedule allows.
Ask a FasCat Q&A from our Sweet Spot Saturday Group Ride
Q: What should my heart rate be doing right now?
If you're in your sweet spot, it should be in your sweet spot zone.
Sub 7 hour & 30th Place Leadville 100 MTB Race Analysis with Coach Elliott
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about some of the adversity you faced during the race and what you did to overcome it?
Elliott experienced some hydration and fueling issues in the second half of the race but managed to adjust his intake and stay on top of his calories.
Phil Gaimon is going to win the Tour de France!
Q: Can you tell us about your training and nutrition protocols for the big climbs?
Phil outlines how he prepares for climbs nutritionally, focusing on carb intake before and during rides to maintain energy levels.
