  • Last one with Mr Ricks is too political

Have listened faithfully to every podcast. Now that you had an obvious Anti trump person on could you put a Trump supporter on like Mark Levin who has written about our founders for years not just after he was shocked by an election. Totally turned off by last episode. If it continues to get political I will no longer listen.

  • Great Interviews

I have listened to many interesting interviews with people who really know their stuff. Sometimes the guest sound quality suffers from a poor phone line, but great content.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

E318: Gabriel Neville: The New Dominion: Virginia's Land in the Northwest
Q: How did Jefferson and Washington influence western settlement after the Revolution?
Jefferson ideated an agrarian republic and proposed territorial organization that would eventually transform western lands into states; Washington focused on practical governance, treaties, and preventing illegal squatters, shaping how the West was legally integrated into the new nation.
E318: Gabriel Neville: The New Dominion: Virginia's Land in the Northwest
Q: What made you interested in writing this article?
I wanted to trace why veterans and settlers moved west, using their sources like pension depositions and surveying records to show how frontier life, land policy, and constitutional questions intersected in Virginia's footprint on the Northwest.
Michael Adelberg: The Monmouth County Jailbreak of 1781
Q: So, Mike, let's get to the heart of your article. What happened in the 1781 jail break and who was involved?
The jailbreak involved dozens of inmates swelling the jail population after a militia sweep, with several named escapees—Humphrey Wade, Joel Parker, Robert James, and Denight—plus others who fled and coordinated with outside contacts, leading to a subsequent wave of crime and swift but limited captures.
E314: Tom McMillan: The Year That Made America
Q: How did you approach writing about these mass historical events?
By digging into 18th-century sources and letters, I discovered textures of history often overlooked in popular accounts.
E314: Tom McMillan: The Year That Made America
Q: What was your big takeaway from this book?
The realization that the events leading to independence almost didn't happen and the struggle was more complex than the simple narrative we often hear.
