This was so interesting and informative. Very well done. I’d half-seen (through cracks in between my fingers over my eyes) the movie decades ago (1993), but never thought about it again. I learned so much from this podcast, and it really makes me more aware of the importance of knowing whose story is being told (even in part) by who.
I didn't expect this show to be THIS good. My only criticism is…it’s over. I hope you come back with a new story to tell.
A Trumpian Candian version of a story. They go overboard spinning this story. Great host and production, i hope they wil revisit this story in a few years
I just want to hear about Ruthie Mae. I don’t care about the movie, so I’m bored with all of the references that mean nothing to me.
Well written and well presented. Enlightening, especially for those of us born into circumstances that protect us from understanding intentional systemic failures that serve to promote racial, criminal & economic stereotypes

The series presents a detailed exploration of the tragic and haunting story of Ruthie Mae McCoy, whose murder in 1987 became a cautionary tale about systemic failure in addressing issues of safety and justice for vulnerable communities. Focusing on accountable storytelling, each episode addresses how factors like racial injustice, housing inequality, and mental health stigma contributed to the neglect McCoy faced from law enforcement and the judicial system. The connection to the ensuing Candyman horror film serves as a lens to examine these societal issues in depth, making the narrative not just about crime but about broader social implications that resonate today.
