  • I knew him when!

Steev has been a constant source inside knowledge of the Boston (and beyond) Indy rock scene and I’ve been glad to know of him since the jitty pre Y2K era of 1999.

All around cool guy who likes cats and pro wrestling. The pod is worth a listen - just please get The Chelsea Curve on while I’m still able to hear it.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

457. John Sparrow - Violent Femmes
Q: Did growing up in Milwaukee influence your musical path?
Absolutely; Sparrow describes a rough neighborhood but a rich music ecosystem, with polka, jazz, and later rock and hip hop shaping his approach and resilience as a musician.
457. John Sparrow - Violent Femmes
Q: How did you end up joining the Violent Femmes?
The path involved connections with Brian and Victor, a willingness to adapt musically, and Sparrow's jazz-infused drumming which fit the band's evolving needs; the formal break came when Sparrow joined in 2005.
437. Kerrin Connolly
Q: Not intentionally. I think I was still recording covers and I took a break from formally recording things in 2021, which led to creating Is Hard and other tracks.
Not intentionally. I think I was still making covers on YouTube and stuff like that, but I took a break from like formally recording things in 2021, which gave me space to reassess and come back with a clearer direction.
437. Kerrin Connolly
Q: That's a good segue because I was going to get into the instrument. So the guitar was your first instrument.
Yeah, I would say so. Guitar was the first one that I needed to know what chords are, even though I also tinkered with piano.
438. Sandy Skye Netburn
Q: How did your family influence your path into music and performance?
Sandy describes her father exposing her to classic rock and helping her explore different performance forms, from ventriloquism to guitar, shaping her confidence and curiosity.
