Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

463. Linda Viens - Girl With A Hawk
Q: What is the meaning behind Regenesis and the band name, and how did the album come together in the studio?
The title and band name arose from a spontaneous moment of inspiration during a woodland walk, later solidified by the realization that the project represented renewal after decades in the scene, and most recording happened at Mad Oak with Panoramic House sessions in California.
463. Linda Viens - Girl With A Hawk
Q: Can you talk about how this band came together and the order came together, when it came together, the whole nine yards?
Linda explains how COVID-era circumstances, family commitments, and a desire to play in a band again led to assembling a new lineup with Daniel Bernfeld, Adam Sherman, and Nancy (on drums), building on prior collaborations and a shared love of rock with pop sensibilities.
457. John Sparrow - Violent Femmes
Q: Did growing up in Milwaukee influence your musical path?
Absolutely; Sparrow describes a rough neighborhood but a rich music ecosystem, with polka, jazz, and later rock and hip hop shaping his approach and resilience as a musician.
457. John Sparrow - Violent Femmes
Q: How did you end up joining the Violent Femmes?
The path involved connections with Brian and Victor, a willingness to adapt musically, and Sparrow's jazz-infused drumming which fit the band's evolving needs; the formal break came when Sparrow joined in 2005.
437. Kerrin Connolly
Q: Not intentionally. I think I was still recording covers and I took a break from formally recording things in 2021, which led to creating Is Hard and other tracks.
Not intentionally. I think I was still making covers on YouTube and stuff like that, but I took a break from like formally recording things in 2021, which gave me space to reassess and come back with a clearer direction.
