  • Just Like Old Times!

Listening to Rob has been like reminiscing with an old friend about the music that shaped the formative years of our lives! The journey he’s taken us on (particularly the 90s episodes) has reminded me of so many of those defining moments in my life that were also defining moments in music history. I feel absolutely blessed to have come of age during the 90s (yes I am the same age as Rob) and to have found this show that has brought so much joy to my “me time.” There have been so many stories whe... more

  • Great podcast

Whilst away on holiday I was stuck for new music but my era was the 90s when we were spoiled with great album after great album. I love all the great grunge records and other American music like Metallica, Rancid, Panthers and others but absolutely loved UK bands like The Wildhearts (best songs on the planet), The Almighty, Terrorvision etc so to come across all these great podcasts with albums I has previously overlooked in the days when you had to be choosy about which ones you could afford ha... more

  • ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL

I have considered unsubscribing to every other podcasts and just listening to this one. Rob is a master word smith, and he is able to piece together different songs in a way that you would not perhaps expect but you would deeply appreciate. Im a 1980s kid, and his tastes really mirror the tastes of my generation, so if you are an 80s kid, or perhaps younger but love music, then you should 100% listen to this podcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

"Grindin’"— The Clipse
Q: Do you think it is reductive to describe the clips as Coke rappers? Like, are they more than that?
Of course they're more than that. I mean, I get why people do it. What I never understood is I never understood the criticism for it.
"Grindin’"— The Clipse
Q: Is Grindin the best, the single best Neptunes beat of all time, Shea?
Oh, yeah, I think he's the first one anyone is going to say. Let's go with that.
"Grindin’"— The Clipse
Q: Does Grindin still kind of sound like the future to you now?
It does. That whole pocket of music that came out around then, the whole Virginia scene, it all still sounds like it's from the future.
"Grindin’"— The Clipse
Q: Can you please tell the people why Grindin is the most important rap song of the year 2002?
Whenever you're working on a project like that, you want to look for stuff like tent pole moments, flag planting moments, moments where something shifted.
"The House That Built Me"— Miranda Lambert
Q: What do you make of the line out here, it's like I'm someone else?
It reflects a yearning for an idealized past self that existed in a place that felt like home, emphasizing the emotional weight of returning to that space.
