  • Play the damn song

Interesting podcast overall but could be greatly improved by actually playing more of the music. Even if talked over. They never play the full song like other great song dissection podcasts (song exploder, strong songs etc) and the snippets of any songs they reference are FAR too short to get an appreciation of what they’re talking about. Music free use is allowed in this manner. The result is if you’re not already familiar with a song, you still won’t be, even after listening to an hour long ep... more

  • When is now?

I love the show. The Soon Is Now episode had some great stuff to say about the Marr influences for the Rhythm and the Tremolo. I have to say though, you all missed the meaning of the title of “How Soon Is Now?”You claim that Morrissey never says the title but the final verse is basically just the title. “When you say, ‘it’s gonna happen now,’ when exactly do you mean?” Is just a longer way of saying the title. It could have been called “When is Now?” But that would sound like some stupid psyched... more

Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: What was it like being in this video?
It was very hot. I remember that because I think we did it somewhere in Texas when it was like...
Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: In that moment, before the band becomes the band that is now a 35-year-old, you are what you are, before you had formed fully, and this song is one of your first songs that you recorded, did you have a sense that it might be slightly more in this direction, in that direction, the mix that it ended up being?
At the end of the day, we were just kids doing music that we liked, and music that we listen to, and it just so happened that it was inspired by production teams like the bomb squad.
Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: Can we talk about your look in this video?
We weren't hood dudes, like walking around, like toting pistols or anything like that. We were very studious kids that sang in choirs and sang classical music.
Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: So Shawn, let's take it back to the beginning of Boyz II Men. You, Nate, Wanyay and Mike met at a performing arts high school in Philadelphia. Did you see it that way at the time?
Yeah, Take Six was a definite influence for us. It's what we listened to in high school alongside New Edition and Guy and Babyface.
Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w Shawn Stockman: Part Two
Q: Did you ever feel that pressure to recreate hits like End Of The Road?
Ballads were just natural to us. We loved singing or writing ballads, but we knew we couldn't redo End Of The Road. We focused on exploring new directions instead.
