  • Good show but,….

I love the deep dive into each song. I’ve only listened to a handful of episodes and in each one so far, Diallo finds a way to bring up race.

  • Weekend Update

I suspect this is going to be an unpopular opinion and I really really wanted to like this show--in all fairness the hosts love of the music and effort in doing research does come through--but I wish this generation would not be so invested in thinking that whatever topic they are speaking about would be enhanced by two best friends spending half the time trying to be irreverent comedians. I personally could do without the unskilled 90-minute long imitations of SNL's Weekend Update segment. Also... more

  • My favorite music podcast

I love this show. Each episode is a deep dive into a song from the perspective of very knowledgeable music lovers. They break the song all the way down to talk about the vocals, instrumentation, history, and connections to other works. I learn a ton from every episode. I particularly love that it doesn’t matter if they are fans of a song or not, they treat it with respect.

  • These two…

Have to really love the song to press play on this show. The two hosts have grown to be near unlistenable. They sure are impressed with themselves.

  • Seriously good Pod deep-dives on how & why tracks are amazing

Try it - you won’t be disappointed! Stumbled across this & these guys totally deliver the goods on why & how tracks are layered / made that become absolute classics. Infectious enthusiasm from two main hosts (& some guests) make you appreciate more that aural gold. Thanks for the work you put in & now my №1 ‘Cast. Re-up regular Hey Music Lovers…

Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: What was it like being in this video?
It was very hot. I remember that because I think we did it somewhere in Texas when it was like...
Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: In that moment, before the band becomes the band that is now a 35-year-old, you are what you are, before you had formed fully, and this song is one of your first songs that you recorded, did you have a sense that it might be slightly more in this direction, in that direction, the mix that it ended up being?
At the end of the day, we were just kids doing music that we liked, and music that we listen to, and it just so happened that it was inspired by production teams like the bomb squad.
Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: Can we talk about your look in this video?
We weren't hood dudes, like walking around, like toting pistols or anything like that. We were very studious kids that sang in choirs and sang classical music.
Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: So Shawn, let's take it back to the beginning of Boyz II Men. You, Nate, Wanyay and Mike met at a performing arts high school in Philadelphia. Did you see it that way at the time?
Yeah, Take Six was a definite influence for us. It's what we listened to in high school alongside New Edition and Guy and Babyface.
Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w Shawn Stockman: Part Two
Q: Did you ever feel that pressure to recreate hits like End Of The Road?
Ballads were just natural to us. We loved singing or writing ballads, but we knew we couldn't redo End Of The Road. We focused on exploring new directions instead.
