  • Love the stems!

This show is really cool. I love hearing the stems and then going back to listen to the song again. I would love to hear an episode featuring a Tom Petty song. Please please please!

  • Partnership with war-mongers?

So now you’re partnering with Spotify, whose CEO is using subscriber money to fund weapons of war? What are you guys thinking? People have been leaving Spotify over this, and you choose to partner? Love the podcast, but this is *incredibly* disappointing, says a lot about who you are as people, I am forced to unsubscribe and leave One Song behind. Sucks a lot.

  • A good hang

This show is just a good hang. I love their camaraderie and their insights. Even when the episode is about a song I don’t really know, I still want to give it a listen just for Diallo and LUXXURY’s banter.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” (Bad Boy Remix ft. ODB) with Durand Bernarr
Q: Durand, what did this remix mean to hip hop and how did it change the landscape for pop crossovers?
The remix showed that hip hop could merge with mainstream pop without diluting either side, signaling a decade-plus shift where pop and R&B often wore hip hop-informed production and vocal styles as a standard. It demonstrated that a pop superstar collaborating with a hip hop icon could redefine chart dynamics and studio storytelling.
Interview with Fab 5 Freddy
Q: What is the origin of hip hop as a named movement?
Hip hop emerged as a broader umbrella during the era when DJs, MCs, and dancers were evolving together, and Freddy helped push the term into prominence through discussions, interviews, and film collaborations that tied the culture to a recognizable label.
Fugees' "Ready or Not" w/ Wyclef Jean
Q: How did you come across the song by Enya that you sampled?
I watched a movie and tapped into the sound. Then I went to the record store and bought her vinyl.
Fugees' "Ready or Not" w/ Wyclef Jean
Q: What's the legacy of Ready or Not, and the album at large?
Just timeless music. If you take your time and you make timeless music, it will find its way.
Fugees' "Ready or Not" w/ Wyclef Jean
Q: Were you consciously thinking about pushing boundaries or were you just instinctually making the music that you wanted to hear?
We were just doing it. I was influenced just by underground music and fell in love with producing hip hop.
