  • Always a treat

Listening to every episode when they drop is a dopamine hit. While my music taste is toward punk/metal/noise based on deep rock n roll/classic rock/blues, I appreciate diallo & luxxury’s knowledge, curiosity, and honesty when encountering new or unfamiliar music. It opens my mind and perspective, challenges me to hear music differently.

Thank you, Diallo. Loved your Paint it Black comments. I’m a Caucasian 60 year old from the Northeast and will never tap my foot to Brown Sugar again. I appreciate this pod for the musical and cultural education.

  • Paint It Black pod

Entertaining, but hard to listen to knowing about ‘Brown Sugar’ and a 33 year old Mick Jagger having sex with a 15 year old Rae Dawn Chong…

I hadn’t heard Cocteau Twins’ ‘Lorelei’ in at least 30 years. I loved that song…

Have you considered doing a pod on My Bloody Valentine’s ‘Soon’?

Q: How did you come across the song by Enya that you sampled?
I watched a movie and tapped into the sound. Then I went to the record store and bought her vinyl.
Fugees' "Ready or Not" w/ Wyclef Jean
Q: What's the legacy of Ready or Not, and the album at large?
Just timeless music. If you take your time and you make timeless music, it will find its way.
Fugees' "Ready or Not" w/ Wyclef Jean
Q: Were you consciously thinking about pushing boundaries or were you just instinctually making the music that you wanted to hear?
We were just doing it. I was influenced just by underground music and fell in love with producing hip hop.

Q: What was it like being in this video?

Boyz II Men's "Motownphilly" w/ Shawn Stockman: Part One
Q: In that moment, before the band becomes the band that is now a 35-year-old, you are what you are, before you had formed fully, and this song is one of your first songs that you recorded, did you have a sense that it might be slightly more in this direction, in that direction, the mix that it ended up being?
At the end of the day, we were just kids doing music that we liked, and music that we listen to, and it just so happened that it was inspired by production teams like the bomb squad.
