I love the deep dive into each song. I’ve only listened to a handful of episodes and in each one so far, Diallo finds a way to bring up race.
I suspect this is going to be an unpopular opinion and I really really wanted to like this show--in all fairness the hosts love of the music and effort in doing research does come through--but I wish this generation would not be so invested in thinking that whatever topic they are speaking about would be enhanced by two best friends spending half the time trying to be irreverent comedians. I love this show. Each episode is a deep dive into a song from the perspective of very knowledgeable music lovers. They break the song all the way down to talk about the vocals, instrumentation, history, and connections to other works. I learn a ton from every episode. I particularly love that it doesn’t matter if they are fans of a song or not, they treat it with respect.
Have to really love the song to press play on this show. The two hosts have grown to be near unlistenable. They sure are impressed with themselves.
Try it - you won’t be disappointed! Stumbled across this & these guys totally deliver the goods on why & how tracks are layered / made that become absolute classics. Infectious enthusiasm from two main hosts (& some guests) make you appreciate more that aural gold. Thanks for the work you put in & now my №1 ‘Cast. Re-up regular Hey Music Lovers…
