I wasted my time and listened to a couple of episodes of this because of all the “rage.” Having lived in Nashville for years, I knew quite a bit about Dolly’s career but wanted to learn more. The first one I listened to was the one on her and Porter and wow…it was terrible and so many opinions and mistruths. His poor daughter was even dragged into it. Narrator annoying. We want to learn about Dolly. Narrator keeps trying to make it about himself, as if he's the story. He keeps skewing Dolly's story according to his own current politics, pushing his own agenda and values, even though Dolly keeps politely telling him he's reading things into her song and story thats not there, such as no, the song Joleene isn't homo erotica. He spends most of time on stuff like his dad's Lebanese immigrant story, telling us the forgotten black history o... more
I loved learning about Dolly and the interviews were great. But, it felt too much like the female host had a preconceived notion of Dolly’s beliefs and tried to push her own political agenda and insert herself way too much into the story. She assigned meaning and political significance in ways that were clearly not what Dolly intended once you listened to Dolly in her own words. Dolly should be the focus, not the host.

Fyodor Dostoyevsky wrote "none of us like the narod [people]as they actually are, but only as each of us has imagined them." This podcast is American narodism. Instead of taking Dolly Parton an... more
