  • Practical summer red fishing

The latest episode with Joe Tunstall was the most informative inshore fishing podcast episode I’ve ever listened to. I’m in Charleston but can definitely apply these tactics. Great work!

  • Can’t hear the guest

This seemed to happen a lot the last time y’all did podcasting a few years ago and the latest episode is no different. The redfish guy I couldn’t hardly hear with my radio turn completely up. Then I couldn’t stand to listen to you because you were so loud. I love the Fisherman’s Post, but you gotta do something about the volume of your guests. It’s not the quality I expect from Fisherman’s Post.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Sight Casting for Early Spring Red Drum with Capt. Jacob Boucher
Q: What lures and setups work best for early-spring red drum when sight casting?
A combination of light, weedless rigs with Texas Eye Jig Heads (1/8 oz) and small paddle tails (3 inches) in colors like Mood Ring, plus scent considerations, are recommended; the emphasis is on slow, subtle retrieves and avoiding center-of-school casts to prevent spooking fish.
Sight Casting for Early Spring Red Drum with Capt. Jacob Boucher
Q: What is the world's most consumed meat and how does it relate to his nickname?
The host humorously introduces a trivia question about butcher vocabulary to lighten the show; Jacob answers that pork is the most consumed meat, tying it to his last name 'Boucher' meaning butcher, in a playful exchange that shows the show's casual tone.
Sight Casting for Early Spring Red Drum with Capt. Jacob Boucher
Q: Why should anyone listen to you about red drum sight casting?
Jacob highlights his two-plus decades in the Swansboro area, targeting redfish (along with trout and flounder) and his observed shifts in seasons and fish behavior due to weather and wildlife closures, which give him practical, field-tested insights for successful sight casting.
Understanding All Things Fishing Rods with Tom Roper
Q: How should a casual angler think about power and action when choosing a rod for a general purpose?
A good all-around pick is a medium power with fast action (or MF, medium-fast), which provides sensitivity for bites and enough backbone to handle common inshore species like flounder and trout.
Understanding All Things Fishing Rods with Tom Roper
Q: What does that mean for a listener to understand about rod selection?
Know two things: the rod's power and its action, which together determine how the rod will bend, load, and perform with different species and lures.
