Q: Can you help with making the link between the chemical imbalance theory and the disease model? How are those two things connected?
Certainly, the American Psychiatric Association adopted the disease model in 1980, categorizing disorders as diseases of the brain without solid scientific discoveries to back this up and started promoting it with the chemical imbalance story.
