  • A great listen.

Love this podcast, have been listening a while. Although true crime content, it covers the whys & wheres & is presented intelligently & thoughtfully. There have been more chats with fiction writers of late, which have been really enjoyable. Loved the chat with Lee Child & his slant on the world of writing, came across as a very unpretentious man.

  • Very good indeed!

This podcast is interesting and treats its subject matter with a sensitivity that is rare in true crime. It’s not flashy. The interest comes from the cases themselves and the interviews with the people involved. The episodes with crime writers are a nice treat.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ITV's Gone: Screenwriter George Kay and the crimes that shaped a drama
Q: So for people who haven't seen the show yet, and we have lots of international listeners as well, just describe what the premise of the show is.
The show presents two parallel viewpoints—the headmaster Michael Polly and the family liaison officer Annie Cassidy—developing a crime story from opposed perspectives and watching how they try to solve what starts as a missing person case that becomes a murder investigation.
Gone - the series finale: Director Richard Laxton
Q: How did you approach casting and balancing the performances to fit the tone you wanted?
Richard describes careful casting choices, aiming for actors who could be real, not archetypal cops, and how their dynamics with the scripts shaped the show's tone.
Gone - the series finale: Director Richard Laxton
Q: What attracted you to Gone and what stage was it at when you joined?
The host asks about the initial attraction to the project and the point in development when the director came on, with emphasis on how casting and early scripts evolved.
Luther & The Iris Affair: the crime creations of Booker Award-nominated Neil Cross
Q: What drew you to write Luther and how did the character come to life?
Cross describes Luther as a character born from a desire to tell stories he wanted to watch, with the pilot's setup and Colombo-influenced structure shaping the show's approach.
Luther & The Iris Affair: the crime creations of Booker Award-nominated Neil Cross
Q: Tell us where the idea for Iris Affair came from.
Neil explains he was inspired by old-fashioned, stylish TV shows and wanted to recreate a strand of 1970s espionage-adventure energy, blending lush visuals with twisty storytelling.
