  • A great listen.

Love this podcast, have been listening a while. Although true crime content, it covers the whys & wheres & is presented intelligently & thoughtfully. There have been more chats with fiction writers of late, which have been really enjoyable. Loved the chat with Lee Child & his slant on the world of writing, came across as a very unpretentious man.

  • Very good indeed!

This podcast is interesting and treats its subject matter with a sensitivity that is rare in true crime. It’s not flashy. The interest comes from the cases themselves and the interviews with the people involved. The episodes with crime writers are a nice treat.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mark Gatiss: The True Crime of the Bookish era
Q: How do you achieve the appealing look of the bookshop in Bookish?
I wanted it to look welcoming and functional rather than like a museum, inspired by lovely bookshops from my childhood.
Simon McCleave: From screenplays to the Snowdonia Killings
Q: Why did you decide to do crime as a genre?
I've always been obsessed with crime, starting with childhood mysteries and leading to a lifelong passion for crime novels and thrillers.
Lee Child: Jack Reacher, my true crime inspiration, my writing craft and why I've left America
Q: What influences, what did you soak up over the years in which you thought, well, actually I love what he or she's done?
There are so many influences, and like I said before, it's got to be 100% your vision.
Lee Child: Jack Reacher, my true crime inspiration, my writing craft and why I've left America
Q: Did you think when you were writing books in the early days, you want to write something that could be read for decades?
You just got to get the story out.
Lee Child: Jack Reacher, my true crime inspiration, my writing craft and why I've left America
Q: And in what ways did both of those things, because I would imagine they both did influence your writing?
The fundamental thing you learned in television is it's not about you; it's about the audience.
