  • As an autistic Englishman I find the overexcitability and overexpressiveness of American media presenters very difficult to tolerate.

The presenters of Autistic Culture display those characteristics in spades, making it a difficult podcast to listen to. It's worth persisting with, though, as they have a lot of interesting, valuable and very relatable things to say.

  • Finding My Neurokin

As an adult who has been going through learning about being an autistic person over the past year, I have been lucky to stumble across many wonderful resources to help me learn about “my people” and to understand who I am. During this quest for knowledge, thanks to my knowledge hunger (a term touted and that I picked up from on this podcast) I came across the Autistic Culture podcast. It was in my hopper for several months as I had other things to listen to (Positive Disintegration podcast being... more

  • Wishing for accountability of neurotypicals instead of shaming

As the parent of a probably autistic, definitely neurodivergent son, I want to learn as much as I can about autism & different people’s unique experiences. I have learned from this podcast, but the harsh, shaming tone nearly shuts me down. I understand that the hosts’ experiences with the neurotypical world must be very frustrating, & this podcast is their piece of the world to express that, but I wish they could just hold the rest of us accountable for needing to do better instead of shaming us... more

  • No longer about culture

This has long been one of my top podcasts, but with the recent changes it’s no longer about “culture” per the name, or even the activism. I understand that it’s a difficult time, but after several episodes in a row exclusively about a writing challenge … I’m not sure this is for me any longer. I’m not an author and I’m not interested in writing. That kind of content should probably be in a new podcast, not one called “autistic culture“.

  • The BEST Autistic podcast!

I love learning and I love listening to podcasts to do it. While I love and listen to a variety of Autistic podcasts, this one is the only one I consistently listen to. It is always well-researched and fun.

I am a late-diagnosed Autistic and I highly recommend this podcast!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Regulation Station: Regulating Two Nervous Systems - Parenting Through Crisis
Q: If you could redesign one part of the educational or medical system tomorrow, what would it be?
The most pressing change would be greater flexibility and understanding around attendance and crisis management, with crisis interventions that can come to the home and more adaptive school supports to prevent chronic absences during periods of medical and behavioral crises.
Late Diagnosis Club: How Dale Missed His Autism Diagnosis Despite Working in Special Education
Q: What are the potential positives of the SEND reforms and what should listeners watch for?
The reforms emphasize early support and a shift toward needs-based interventions, which could help children before crises occur, but there are concerns about overlap during transition and accountability in the absence of tribunals; active input from autistic communities has informed discussions.
Late Diagnosis Club: How Dale Missed His Autism Diagnosis Despite Working in Special Education
Q: Give us a before and after for you. How has AI changed your work at B Squared?
He's shifted from doing many tasks manually to using AI to structure writing, brainstorm questions, and prepare for conversations, while always keeping a human in the loop to ensure clarity and relevance; AI helps with planning, not replacing human judgment.
Late Diagnosis Club: How Dale Missed His Autism Diagnosis Despite Working in Special Education
Q: Tell me your story.
Dale explains growing up with a family deeply involved in education, discovering autistic traits in himself and his relatives, and how he ended up working in special education before receiving formal diagnoses of autism and ADHD in 2023, which finally clarified his lifelong experiences.
Late Diagnosis Club: How Jason Built a Life That Worked for Him After His Late Autism Diagnosis
Q: How did the diagnosis affect your relationship with your wife and your work environment?
The diagnosis helped both partners understand each other's needs, clarified boundaries, and improved communication; at work, it enabled better self-advocacy through personal accommodations, even though formal disclosure to HR remained off the table for now.
