As an autistic Englishman I find the overexcitability and overexpressiveness of American media presenters very difficult to tolerate.
The presenters of Autistic Culture display those characteristics in spades, making it a difficult podcast to listen to. It's worth persisting with, though, as they have a lot of interesting, valuable and very relatable things to say.
As an adult who has been going through learning about being an autistic person over the past year, I have been lucky to stumble across many wonderful resources to help me learn about “my people” and to understand who I am. During this quest for knowledge, thanks to my knowledge hunger (a term touted and that I picked up from on this podcast) I came across the Autistic Culture podcast. It was in my hopper for several months as I had other things to listen to (Positive Disintegration podcast being... more
As the parent of a probably autistic, definitely neurodivergent son, I want to learn as much as I can about autism & different people’s unique experiences. I have learned from this podcast, but the harsh, shaming tone nearly shuts me down. I understand that the hosts’ experiences with the neurotypical world must be very frustrating, & this podcast is their piece of the world to express that, but I wish they could just hold the rest of us accountable for needing to do better instead of shaming us... more
This has long been one of my top podcasts, but with the recent changes it’s no longer about “culture” per the name, or even the activism. I understand that it’s a difficult time, but after several episodes in a row exclusively about a writing challenge … I’m not sure this is for me any longer. I’m not an author and I’m not interested in writing. That kind of content should probably be in a new podcast, not one called “autistic culture“.
I love learning and I love listening to podcasts to do it. While I love and listen to a variety of Autistic podcasts, this one is the only one I consistently listen to. It is always well-researched and fun.
I am a late-diagnosed Autistic and I highly recommend this podcast!

The show center is authentic autistic culture, broadly exploring advocacy, identity, history, creativity, and community through first-person storytelling and expert perspectives. Episodes frequently profile late-diagnosed experiences, intersections with race, gender, and disability, and practical guidance on relationships, work, education, and self-advocacy. A notable throughline is elevating autistic voices with a culture-first lens, emphasizing lived experience, representation, and empowerment over pathology, often pairing personal journeys with broader social commentary. The format tends to mix candid storytelling, scholarly insight, and actionable takeaways, making it appealing to autistic listeners, allies, and professionals seeking de... more
