(Replay) 051: Ann Rolland: Architecture and Retirement: Reflecting on the Process, Designing the Next Phase
Q: Where we are starting is, I had been doing some research and I found that you once told a story where you were really frustrated when you were in grade school, because, or I guess maybe grade school, high school, you were siloed into home economics due to your gender. Can you talk a little bit about how that came to be?
Growing up in the 70s, women were steered toward home economics, which felt mind-numbing to me, while boys could take carpentry or auto mechanics. I pressed the guidance counselor to explore more technical options, found mechanical drafting, and continued with it through high school and into architecture, which set the course for my career.
