  • So satisfying

I just binge listened over the past few days to so many episodes of your show and it brought me so much joy and nostalgia. You remind me of Marc Maron with your ability to relate to your guests but with plenty of space for them to share their stories. Keep going!

  • The Ego Has Landed

He gets - somehow - some decent guests but I laughed out loud as he bragged about what a great interviewer he is - plot spoiler: he isn’t - and yet he’s been trying to get in touch with a previous guest who refuses to answer his calls. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Carmine Appice: Cactus, Vanilla Fudge, and GN'R | Ep. 558
Q: Did you really invent the drum clinic, or was it something you popularized first in rock circles?
I didn't invent the drum clinic, but I was the first rock musician to actively do them, turning the concept into a recurring, marketable program that included collaborating with drum companies and producing a long-running series of clinics and a best-selling drum book.
"Estranged: Guns N' Roses & Use Your Illusion" author, Geoff Harkness | Ep. 557
Q: Did you conduct new interviews for the book, or was it primarily a synthesis of existing material and archival sources?
He notes that while some interviews existed (e.g., Rolling Stone, Interview Magazine), the book is largely a historical synthesis built from extensive archival material and previously published interviews, supplemented by his own research and the broader ecosystem of GN'R scholarship.
"Estranged: Guns N' Roses & Use Your Illusion" author, Geoff Harkness | Ep. 557
Q: Why focus specifically on the Illusion era, and how did you decide to structure the book to cover that period in depth?
He explains that while Appetite for Destruction has been well documented, the Illusion era lacked a deep, detailed treatment; his aim was to provide a soup-to-nuts, cover-to-cover exploration of that era, including the creation of iconic videos and the broader cultural context, while presenting Axel's perspective rather than a one-sided critique.
Ryan Roxie: Fight Another Day, Slash's Snakepit and Alice Cooper | Ep. 551
Q: What's something that you really learned from Alice Cooper that you think you would not have learned from anyone else?
I've learned that you can be secure with your ego... he has a way of looking you in the eye and listening to you and making you feel like you're the most important person in the room.
Peter Napoliello: Part IV (Geffen, Guns N' Roses, and The Power of Legacy) | Ep. 547
Q: How did the label respond to Izzy leaving?
The label was numb to anything because so much transpired before the record was even made. It was heartbreaking and there were many accusations about why he left, but the transition happened quickly.
