  • Great Interviews; I miss the Old intro…alot

Really enjoy that the host makes the guest shine and restraints commentary—really refreshing in interview style podcasts. I like also the diversity in content BUT with certain consistent elements—like the standard closing questions.

One thing though: I really miss the original intro/outro music; it became engrained in my brain and associated with my good memories of discovering this podcast. I know Southern needs to plug somehow but I miss the original intro. Just my opinion.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Foreign to Familiar Part 1 w/ Sarah Lanier
Q: Can you give examples of how not understanding these cultural differences has caused conflict?
There are many instances, including a Nairobi seminar where Western surgical teams failed to account for local communication norms, leading to a breakdown in confidence and teamwork; once the cultural lens was applied, the issues were reframed as misinterpretations rather than personal failings.
Foreign to Familiar Part 1 w/ Sarah Lanier
Q: Can you briefly introduce yourself to our listeners?
I grew up overseas, with deep roots in cross-cultural contexts, and I've spent years teaching and applying cross-cultural principles in leadership and missions, which eventually led to writing Foreign to Familiar.
"The Gospel Way Catechism" w/ Trevin Wax and Thomas West
Q: What makes the Gospel Way Catechism distinct from older catechisms?
It is rooted in historic orthodoxy but crafted to counter contemporary cultural narratives and ideologies, presenting a Christ-centered path that contrasts the world's ways.
"The Gospel Way Catechism" w/ Trevin Wax and Thomas West
Q: Who is the primary audience for the Gospel Way Catechism?
The adult version targets students and adults, with a later kids version designed for families with young children; the goal is accessibility for new believers and depth for seasoned Christians.
Upstream Sending w/ Bradley Bell
Q: What steps would you recommend if they're really wanting to start thinking about embracing kind of this sending church identity?
I would encourage them to start with prayer and be deeply rooted in the word of God, complemented by utilizing resources to kickstart their missions involvement.
