  • The pulpit episode

A fantastic episode with HB Charles. So encouraging and not for the first time I stopped doing the washing up and bowed my head and prayed as I was led in prayer at the end of the episode. Thank you so much. Tremendously helpful and encouraging.

  • The Everyday Pastor

I love this podcast! The content is biblical, well thought out, and so valuable. The presentation is measured, steady, kind, and joyful. I think this is very much worth listening to for any believer. It will help you know better what the work of a pastor is like, and equip you to better support and pray for them. Being a pastor can be lonely in many ways, so to have fellow pastors speak into the lives of those leading churches is powerful.

  • Uniquely Encouraging

This, more than any other podcast in my queue, has caused me to press pause, grab my Bible, and make a note beside a Scripture passage where Matt or Lig gave some fresh insight or pointed application. These brothers are humble, biblical, and wise. And the spectrum covered—age, experience, denominational background—works incredibly well precisely because of that humility and wisdom. Bravo, fellas.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Planting a Church
Q: What do you wish you had understood earlier about the importance of clear pathways for newcomers to belong and be discipled?
He wished to focus on getting Sunday mornings right first, rather than trying to implement every program at once, and to be transparent about distinctive beliefs to foster gospel catholicity.
Planting a Church
Q: What were some of the positives for you there?
The positives included being coached by experienced planters and pastors, and learning from a wealth of resources and prior experience within the denomination, which helped shape a sustainable approach to church planting.
How to Preach the Gospel
Q: What are some of the things you do when you preach through Mark?
The hosts discuss keeping the gospel before listeners by not stopping at Jesus' incarnation or crucifixion alone, but tying his life and death to the resurrection, and ensuring the narrative moves toward Christ through careful application from the text.
How to Talk About Jesus in a Post-Christian Age (with Glen Scrivener)
Q: Why insist on Jesus' divinity as the exclusive path to God?
Because Jesus is presented in Scripture as the pre-existent God who reveals the Father; redefining him as merely a moral teacher distorts the gospel and misses the heart of the Christian claim that he is the source of salvation.
Effective Church Administration (with Jamie Dunlop)
Q: How can a church assess whether its current structures are serving people well?
Jamie's advice includes starting with scripture to evaluate roles such as elders and deacons and ensuring structures facilitate ministry.
