  • Love it!

As a woman with a Masters and PhD in college student affairs, I haven't had any interest in working in collegiate athletics, but I've loved listening to these women's stories of strength, resilience, creativity, passion, motivation, networking, making difficult decisions, creating balance in their lives, and the funny stories along the way. An incredible podcast full of life nuggets. Thank you, and I can't wait to hear more!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 174: Nina King
Q: What mindset helped you stay steady amid constant change in college athletics?
Accepting uncertainty as the environment, not a season, and focusing on stability for the team—being present, listening, and empowering others while maintaining a clear vision.
Episode 174: Nina King
Q: How did you approach the succession process when replacing a legend like Coach K with John Shire?
We conducted a tight, internal search with a small committee, maintaining confidentiality and relying on a rigorous process; the president and Kevin were kept in the loop, and the outcome was a careful balance of continuity and new leadership.
Episode 174: Nina King
Q: What were some of the things you did to become noticed by him and get the opportunity to lead Duke?
Consistency in preparation, willingness to learn, and showing up behind the scenes to ensure the department ran smoothly, which demonstrated capability and reliability; this helped him recognize leadership potential and consider me for major roles.
Episode 174: Nina King
Q: But tell us what were your first goals early in your career?
Early on I started in the Notre Dame business office, studied law, worked in compliance, and eventually became Kevin White's chief of staff, which shaped my path toward athletic administration; I focused on preparation, growth, and being ready for bigger opportunities rather than a fixed plan.
Episode 173: A Walk in Her Shoes - Women of Color Conversation Presented by adidas
Q: How do you all continue to show up and find meaningful ways to lead when we are carrying greater burdens caused by outside influence?
By maintaining the drive and continuing to do what we've always done, showing up for ourselves and each other.
