Episode 56 - Tamzin Munro
Q: Why is being in the energy sector important right now, especially in Scotland?
Tamzin explains the aging electricity grid, increasing energy demand, and the push toward net zero by 2045, highlighting how energy lawyers help steer projects, navigate land rights, and ensure local communities have a voice in wind and hydro developments.
Episode 56 - Tamzin Munro
Q: Can you introduce yourself and tell us what you do?
Tamzin describes being an energy solicitor who lives on the Isle of Skye, working remotely for Gillespie MacAndrew, and balancing life as a mum of three, a homeowner dealing with renovations, and a runner. She also notes her dual qualification path and how COVID helped facilitate remote work.
Educational Episode 3
Q: Is a rural business the right type of business to be a limited company at all?
A limited company can be right for more commercial activities, gives personal liability protection, and can streamline long-term planning and exits, but it also involves more administration and public disclosure, so it should fit the level of risk and growth in the business.
Educational Episode 3
Q: Laura, why should anyone in the rural community care about their business structure?
The structure you choose shapes ownership, control, liability, taxation, and continuity, which directly affects risk, financing, and how easy it is to pass the business to the next generation; choosing the right structure early can save headaches and support long-term plans.
