My only complaint is how infrequently episodes are posted but I know the quality would decrease if they forced them out.
Came via the Fullcast and stayed because VBS is awesome. This podcast is so smart and honest and kind. Everyone go buy Jason’s book so he can become a wealthy man of leisure who can podcast about the Bible more often.
The Bible is weird, and these guys celebrate the weirdness, meeting the audience where they’re at. Great job!
As a former youth group kid, this podcast is everything I never knew I was missing. An excellent way to reconnect with the Bible through a smart, funny, thoughtful lens. Jason does a great job summarizing biblical scholarship in an accessible way, and their cultural critiques have helped me remember all the good parts of my evangelical roots (like Tooth & Nail records!), not just the bad and cringe.
So I started listening via Shutdown Fullcast and happen to have a very complicated, traumatic relationship with Christianity, so I was hesitant to listen to VBS. My mind has been blown. Viewing scripture through a different lens has completely reshaped (and repaired) how I view religion at large, and has honestly granted me more grace in how I view others’ religious viewpoints, even when they differ (read: are far more rigid) than mine. Thank you for this. I recommend it to everyone. more
