U22 is about readers' journeys through Ulysses, James Joyce’s modernist epic about the lives of ordinary people on a day in Dublin in 1904. The podcast anticipates and accompanies a reader-friendly edition Catherine Flynn is bringing out with Cambridge University Press for the book’s centenary in 2022. Here, she and her co-hosts Rafael Aguilar, Emily Moell, and Louie Poore talk with the contributo... more

In this hallucinatory episode, in which everything that has happened up to this point in Ulysses is reimagined, Bloom and Stephen wander in “Nighttown,” Joyce’s version of the red-light district of Dublin. We talk about confusion, hilarity, gender ro... more
Set in a maternity hospital, “Oxen” parodies the development of English prose. A celebration of maternity or a rival creative feat? Joyce called it the most difficult episode “to interpret and to execute”; we talk about the shortcuts he took in compo... more

Terrific, but when will it return? We still have 3 sections left!
I have now enjoyed Catherine and Emily’s podcast through Circe twice, the second reading to assure that I had given full attention after taking extensive notes the first time. more
I’m working my way through Ulysses as a participant in Ulysses80.ie and this is the perfect accompaniment. Every episode is so enlightening. I’m learning so much. What I also love is how Catherine Flynn is sharing her platform with yes Joyce experts but also Joyce enthusiasts and her own questioning and observant students. This inclusion is so refreshing and underscores the everyman vibe of the book. P.s. first ever podcast review!
I’m absolutely loving this podcast and can’t believe that this level of insight into this great but challenging book is available for free.
