Fished with Paul last June and I’m a flat lander but he was by far the best guide I’ve ever used! Coming to fish July 13th with two of my sons and 12 Okies. I just found the podcast and can’t stop listening. Venice is the best!

    Can’t wait Captain Paul!!!

Episode 4 - Josh Collier
Q: What was the biggest paycheck and how did Calcutta bets influence strategy?
He recalls big checks in the 60k-150k range for King Mackerel era events, with Calcutta bets sometimes driving 70k-plus weekend earnings, but later diminishing as betting shifted and some events folded.
Episode 4 - Josh Collier
Q: How long did you fish with Neil and what changed in the circuit over the years?
Josh explains that he fished with Neil for about 19 seasons, witnessing the King Michael scene evolve, the shift to blue marlin, and how the circuits reorganized around sponsorships and regional tournaments.
Episode 3 - Captain Jerry Murphy
Q: How did you first get involved with the butterfishing and the decision to convert the boat into a trawler?
Murphy explains that he joined after seeing the Captain Grumpy and other boats, and he used hands-on work to build and retrofit the winches and gear to convert the boat, eventually starting butterfishing in the early 90s.
Season 5 - Episode 12 - No Live Bait Needed - Brandon Ramos & Jose Martinez
Q: What do you think we can do as fishermen to better preserve our fisheries?
Fish responsibly by keeping only what you will eat and respecting regulations; focus on the experience rather than just catching fish.
Season 5 - Episode 2 - Butch Thierry
Q: How did seasons and regulations evolve your fishing practices?
Over the years, I've noticed significant changes in regulations that help sustain fish populations.
