  • Horrible podcast production

The content could be great but the audio balancing throughout each episode is horrible. The recording levels between the host, guest and ads are all over the place and will either blow your speakers or eardrums. He will drop an ad in at the end of a question before the guest answers which totally disrupts the flow of the podcast. I under stand ads but place them where it does not distract from the content. Also if are a marketing expert learn how to produce a quality podcast with consistent reco... more

  • Waste of Time

There are some decent guests on this podcast, but the host is terrible. He gives ridiculous advice, thinks he is a social media mogul, and annoyingly says "for sure" constantly.

As a Millwork business owner trying to learn more, this podcast is a complete waste of time.

  • Great, another middle man

These guys reached out to me trying to sell some sleazy lead generation program. The LAST thing this industry needs are more half-baked business coaches, gurus, and charlatans. Get a real job.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Nick Hardrath, The Urban Craftsman
Q: How do you approach marketing and education around Urban Wood to customers and the public?
Marketing relies on social media storytelling, sharing process narratives and material backstories, plus hosting demos and public events to educate people about Urban Wood and its unique qualities.
Nick Hardrath, The Urban Craftsman
Q: What were the biggest management and automation challenges you face in running the business?
Automating finances and shop maintenance stands out as key areas; integrating point-of-sale with accounting systems has made bookkeeping easier, while ongoing maintenance and scheduling automation could further reduce hands-on management time.
Nick Hardrath, The Urban Craftsman
Q: How did you handle the move from manual, smaller tools to more industrial equipment and automation?
The shift was gradual: starting with hobbyist tools, then gradually upgrading to larger, more capable machines; the critical piece was aligning tool capabilities with project variety to avoid production monotony while maintaining interest and quality.
Nick Hardrath, The Urban Craftsman
Q: What was the tipping point that made you able to say goodbye to corporate America and go full-time into this?
The pivot came as a gradual transition where the craft work began to fund equipment and shop expansion, turning the part-time setup into a sustainable full-time business as the shop and capabilities grew.
Nick Hardrath, The Urban Craftsman
Q: So if I understand it correctly, you did not start as a sawmill and lumber business. Is that correct?
Correct—starting with small wooden pieces for friends and family, the operation grew organically into furniture and eventually into milling and drying their own lumber to gain material control.
