  • Growing a career after divorce and being an empty nester

I absolutely love the confidence. Emily brings and helps me feel in myself knowing my value in my worth I listen to her podcast regularly before I go into an interview or even conduct an interview. I’m growing a career and recruiting and I’ve had imposter syndrome since I was a state home mom for 20 years. This is the best podcast. I’ve listened to in a long time.

  • Love this show but lost credibility

I’ve loved this show and Emily for years but it lost a lot of credibility when producer Maria, without an ounce of remorse, admitted to repeatedly parking in a reserved spot even after being told multiple times to stop, then laughed it off saying she deserved to not have to walk across the parking lot. How entitled. I stop listening to the advice sections now whenever I hear Maria come on and am not sure I can take the advice seriously anymore.

I don’t even work in the corporate world but honestly I think this podcast is extremely helpful and practical regardless of which industry you’re in-whether healthcare, education etc. Emily truly has a gift-she has somehow made talking abo... more

3 EASY ways to get noticed on LinkedIn (without it being weird)
Q: What should Renita do about her pay raise during probation after attending the conference?
Assess performance with the boss, understand the process for future raises, document the conversation, and consider updating her resume while applying to other roles if the answers aren't clear or satisfactory.
You're scared of taking time off (I fear you have presenteeism)
Q: Hi, Emily. I love your show and recommend you to my friends and coworkers often.
The host welcomes the caller and begins addressing a common workplace salary concern by outlining how to compare internal roles with external opportunities, discuss salary bands, and push for a performance-based increase while documenting conversations and preparing to explore external options if needed.
Your job is made up & we float on a rock (what is and isn't worth stressing about at work)
Q: Is it a red flag if I apply to two different positions in the same organization?
Not necessarily, as long as they are similar. It shows interest and may even benefit you in the application process.
Your job is made up & we float on a rock (what is and isn't worth stressing about at work)
Q: What if I've built a relationship and they stop responding to my emails?
This likely means they are busy or not in a position to give a referral. It may be best to move on rather than insist on the referral.
PLEASE ignore this career advice in 2026 (I beg)
Q: What should I do if my manager says there's a perception that I'm negative and difficult to work with?
Have a structured conversation with your boss to understand specific behaviors and expectations, but consider applying to other jobs as well, since it may lead to unexpected opportunities.
