The quality of production and Minya Oh’s narrative both pop but it becomes apparent immediately that this is a 6 part commercial for the BMW X7. Hopefully Minya realizes she could produce a much better podcast on her own soon, I think she would find a loyal following quickly.
This podcast is a good idea in theory but not in execution. It feels like an ad, interpersed with details about the city being featured. It feels a little inauthentic and forced. I would expect better from the Infatuation and T Brand.
I liked the idea of learning about different cities through their history, food and culture, but this podcast doesn’t deliver on the promise. It feels very surface level. There are too many quality podcasts available to waste any more time with this one.
I like this concept, but the execution is weak. Scenes feel inauthentic, and sometimes staged. Interviews feel surface-level, and not to the depth or quality I have learned to expect from shows like This American Life, 99% Invisible, or Bullseye. The BMW sponsorship mentions do not blend well with the content. I have little faith that this show will improve.
I unfortunately shared the podcast with a friend who lives in Philly before ever listening to an episode. I was excited! When I did listen, it described Philly as going from “blue collar” to “sophisticated” and featured stories of a Brooklynite (for example) that was bringing new businesses to south Philly. What businesses and communities were there before? The show seems tone deaf to the gentrification that accompanies this new “boom” SMH!
Loved the Phili story, really captures the charm of my favorite city!
Good show for foodies. I enjoyed the minneapolis episode and might checkout Alma next time i'm there.
I feel that the format of this show is better suited for television than for a podcast. I also wanted to learn more about the cities themselves. The X7 references were also excessive.
Really wanted to find out more about the cities as the show suggests, but had to wade through endless talk about food, especially the Minneapolis episode. If you’re a foodie, this show is for you. You just have to put up with shameless pandering to their sponsor, BMW.
Listened to a couple episodes. Sounds more like a car commercial with some interesting anecdotes on top, than the reverse.
No banana skins here, just the juicy, plump fruit of a podcast.
Loved this episode! So many fun facts about Seattle
Can’t wait for the first episode to drop. Looking forward to hearing more!
