  • Insightful and easy listening!

I love listening to Julianne while I’m catching up on work around the house or out on a walk! Her topics and guests are always so informative and just great all around advice and tips for families. I was never a big outdoorsy mom but Julianne makes it so fun and approachable, which is so helpful because I know how important it is - in so many ways! - for kids to get outside. The biggest thing I’ve learned from Julianne, if I had to pick, is the importance of risky play… I really think about this... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP 17: Reclaiming Childhood Independence with Technology featuring Russell York, CEO & Founder of Cosmo
Q: Can you talk about how big tech's approach to parental controls differs from Cosmo's philosophy?
Cosmo believes in building family-first technology from the ground up, with open-source foundations, core parental controls, and a design that prioritizes actual outdoor learning and safe independence over marketing slogans.
EP 14: Homeschool Curious? How Outdoor Play, Community, and One Mom’s Pivot Sparked a Movement | Morgan Bergstrom, Basecamped
Q: What practical advice does she offer for parents who are curious about homeschooling or want to start exploring it with their kids?
Emphasizes starting with community and resources, not building an eight-hour home school on day one. Recommends flexible schedules, co-ops, micro-schools, and leveraging after-school activities. Encourages parents to try outside-the-home learning, use local networks, and gradually expand as life allows.
EP 14: Homeschool Curious? How Outdoor Play, Community, and One Mom’s Pivot Sparked a Movement | Morgan Bergstrom, Basecamped
Q: What prompted the shift from a traditional corporate career to building Basecamped and pursuing homeschooling?
She describes burnout from long work hours, a desire to be more present with her kids, and a realization during a family conversation about a flexible, community-based approach to education that could combine work, travel, and home learning. This led to the concept of Basecamped and eventually full-time dedication to the project.
EP 21: Airway-Centered Orthodontics and Low Tech Living: Root Cause Wellness with Dr. Maureen Kuhta
Q: Is there an age limit for starting airway-centered orthodontic care, and what does the typical treatment timeline look like?
There isn't a strict age cutoff; treatment can be effective for children up to about 14 years old, with expansion often beginning first and lasting several months, followed by multi-disciplinary care such as ENT assessment and myofunctional therapy as needed.
EP 21: Airway-Centered Orthodontics and Low Tech Living: Root Cause Wellness with Dr. Maureen Kuhta
Q: What red flags or symptoms should parents look for that might flip the switch toward an airway-centered orthodontic consult?
Key indicators include snoring and mouth breathing, especially if observed overnight or during sleep; signs of poor sleep quality and daytime behavioral or attention issues may also signal an airway-related cause, prompting a consultation with an airway-focused orthodontist.
