Ep 610: business is boring-touches on a very important subject which all biz owners should be aware of! So many unique stories shared here all with valuable lessons, really crafting a tight knit community of makers!! I’m not a product maker myself, but as a PR coach for many product makers, I am always looking for resources to recommend them!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 717: "Where are They Now?" with Camille Beckles of Camille at the Wheel
Q: What has stayed the same and what has changed in the last five years for you?
Camille explains that she still works full-time in health care and does pottery as an active side hustle, but the focus has shifted from grinding shop drops to larger, collaborative projects, teaching, and more strategic, sustainable work.
Ep 715: Get Specific, Create Demand with Taylor Friese of Maker Bakery
Q: How do you manage commissions and waitlists without getting overwhelmed?
Taylor describes using a focused waitlist system, keeping the group small and highly specific, using a spreadsheet, and often not taking upfront money unless the commission is highly specific. She prioritizes clear upfront communication about timelines and keeps expectations realistic, sometimes offering multiple pieces or designs so that some items can be sold while others are reserved for waitlisted clients.
Ep 713: “Overnight Success” with Aaron Raymond of Redacted Ceramics
Q: How do you handle customer demand and rare repairs or issues?
He remakes items that arrive damaged, offers goodwill without charging for shipping on replacements, and works on clear upfront terms to minimize disputes, while constantly refining policies.
Ep 713: “Overnight Success” with Aaron Raymond of Redacted Ceramics
Q: What were the biggest challenges as you moved to full-time pottery?
Balancing labor-intensive dot work with sustainable production, managing healthcare and expenses in a new country, and navigating pricing to reach US and Canadian buyers while handling cross-border shipping.
Ep 713: “Overnight Success” with Aaron Raymond of Redacted Ceramics
Q: How did you get into clay and what sparked the tile-focused style?
Aaron describes starting with a rented wheel, learning quickly, and then embracing tile-inspired designs as a way to translate his Portuguese influences into mugs, aided by technique and later machine-assisted cuts to scale detail.
